Doctor Vin Corvil

Vin Corvil is a Healer who lives relatively peacefully with his wife and daughter (and a few adopted children) in a secluded house in the Demon Forest. He is the twin brother of Marko Corvil. Now considered a Neutral party, he no longer works exclusively for The Resistance or Bull's Army. He now spends his free time with his family and helping any lost or injured travelers at his home, which is a re-purposed Resistance clinic.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Although he is 54 years old, Vin's body is much younger, appearing to be closer to 30 or 40 years of age thanks to Sel. He is in good condition and rarely ever gets sick, but he is tired much of the time due to lack of sleep.

Body Features

Vin is a fairly hairy man, he keeps his face clean but has given up on daily maintenance of the rest of the hair on his body. He keeps his long hair in a ponytail and only cuts it once every few years, or whenever Sel asks him to.

• Plays with his hair regularly, even in the middle of conversations, this most likely a quirk brought upon by Sel.

Apparel & Accessories

Can be found wearing light clothing all day long, even sometimes when he is dealing with patients. He will remain in his sleeping attire for entire days if he has nowhere to be, which is nearly every day. His clothing is mostly of a brown or light tan color, and he will rarely wear anything with flashy tones.

Vin received much of his combat training in hand-to-hand combat, although he is able to wield knives and daggers with some proficiency as well. He studied more in techniques related to disarming and subduing individuals.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

He and his brother were born in a small town northeast of Ishalla, in the Demon Forest. He was born to a half-Ishallan Human mother and a Demon as her partner. His mother and father were popular residents in the town, so even though they came from a generally disliked lineage, the twins were welcomed in the town from birth. Twins were exceptionally rare in this town, and so he and his brother were seen as signs of the Forest's blessing. To everyone's surprise, the two of them even inherited their Demon father's potential as Healers, with Vin's abilities appearing at around age 6.
As the two of them grew older, visitors from other towns came by because of news of Healing twins. Various organizations sent their workers to investigate the possibility of having better Healers among their ranks. These new arrivals often made Vin uncomfortable, and he was more at ease with his family. Vin was growing up on his mother's tales of life in Ishalla along with her love for all living things, and his father's recounting of events of the past, such as the First Migration and even more stories on the wonders and ugliness of the great city. He and his brother improved their Healing under the guidance of their father, but Marko slowly started expressing his distaste at what he considered to be an incredibly stale life. While Vin respected his brother's opinions, he felt hurt that Marko never quite loved the town as he did.
By the time they were 15, Marko grew sick of the town. He gave Vin a day's notice that the next morning he would leave the town, and asked if Vin would like to accompany him. He believed they were both destined to do great things on the battlefield, but Vin believed that they could both achieve that greatness if they just kept training with their father. Marko discussed his plan along with his reasoning in further detail, while Vin did his best to listen to his brother saying goodbye. Marko left the next morning, and Vin felt like he should have tried harder to keep his brother around. Maybe he should have gone with him. His parents were heartbroken after Vin told them what he knew of his disappearance. Their father searched the surrounding forest area for days in hopes of finding Marko before he disappeared for what they all thought was forever.
During the time during Marko's absence, Vin came into contact with a Demon named Sel.
When Vin turned 17, his mother was killed by a Demon while hunting out in the forest, and his father was killed along with her when he rose to challenge the attacker. Vin never saw the attack, but he sensed that something had gone wrong when his father rushed out of the home and told him to stay put. After a few moments he rushed after his father, and soon found both of their bodies in the snow. He panicked a the loss of two of the most important people in his life, and his only remaining family in the town. Sel did his best to try and calm him down, but to no avail. Vin ran back to town, back to his empty house. He spent the rest of the day in his room, ignoring the townspeople outside asking him about what happened, barely giving any attention to Sel's attempts at comforting him.
After a few days he can't even remember anymore, Vin decided that enough was enough and left the town. He took a single bag of food and a map Marko drew for him a few years ago and went toward the only nearby place he knew of, the first location of where Marko said he would look for work. He managed to find where Marko and his group stayed in the town and he was more than a little surprised to see Vin outside their hometown. It happened to be Marko's day off so they got talking. Vin explained everything that happened since the night Marko left the town, up until the events of a few days ago, with their parents passing away. In a moment of shared grief, he offered Vin a place to stay, along with a place in the organization, possibly even in his group. After a few strings were pulled, Vin was accepted into the ranks of the organization with the same open arms that welcomed his brother a few years prior. To his brother's dismay, Vin's Healing abilities were stronger than his, and it showed. On the Corvil Ranking System, Marko was an A rank Healer at best, while Vin already showed strength in multiple S rank Healing abilities. Vin quickly moved up through the ranks until he met The Bull, who at the time was merely known as Bull. Through his connections with Bull he met Runa Albier and Azetta Dulef. Their two squads quickly reached the top ranks and became famous through their efforts, known more as a sort of elitist group among the rest of the "mediocre" squads.
After Vin helped Bull take over Ishalla, he declined the offer to rule together, and Vin left to further improve his Healing practices. At this point he was listed as AWOL. After a few years he resurfaced, and he followed his brother's steps and joined The Resistance for a few years, however he soon discovered that he no longer wanted to remain entangled in the conflict between two of the most important people in his life right then. By age 40 he quit his work in The Resistance and married a previous member of Bull's Army and old squadmate, his current wife of today, Runa. They put their efforts into raising their daughter, Adi, who they had about a year later. They became good friends with an unnamed demon and allowed it to move in with them, which Adi later named Shadow.

Sel

Vin met Sel out in the Demon Forest while hunting alone. Vin came into contact with a highly aggressive beast of the Forest that would have meant death for him, had Sel not interfered and taken down the creature himself. After a short discussion about their lives, Vin was offered the chance to become a host as a gift. Vin's only condition was that he was forever meant to keep their partnership a secret, and whatever powers Sel allows him to use he must claim as his own. Vin accepted. Sel has remained in Vin's Mindscape ever since.

The Bull

While working his first job with his brother, Vin quickly rose through the ranks of the town militia until he was placed in one of two squads run by a man by the name of Bull. By now the work came naturally, and he expected Bull to be just another boss. He quickly found himself admiring the man's views of life. Bull's tenacity and attitude spread to Vin just like it spread to the rest of the squad. Bull highly respected Vin's abilities as a Healer, and the two of them bonded rather quickly over their missions and free time. The two of them became known as their own team within a team, and they reveled in the rumors spreading throughout the organization. With a bit of help from Sel, none of what went on behind closed doors ever became public.

Runa Albier

Back when Vin still worked for Bull, he met Runa Albier and her friend Azetta Dulef through their work as squadmates. Vin stuck with Bull more often than anyone else, but he enjoyed Runa's company whenever they discussed current happenings in their free time. While they both became good friends, Runa preferred to stay true to her work and not seek out any sort of relationship between herself and her coworkers. She got closer to Vin and Bull as the years went on, and soon enough the three of them went out everywhere together. When Vin wasn't around Bull, he was around Runa, but never closer.
After the Ishalla takeover, Vin disappeared and she was left missing her dear friend. With Bull now in charge of Ishalla, she was left in charge of the two squads Bull commandeered previously. When Vin surfaced again on the Resistance side, he wanted to meet with Runa and Bull somehow, but communication between enemy forces proves to be quite difficult. By sheer luck, her squad managed to intercept his, and the two of them were left with a rather awkward stalemate in which they both discovered their inability to kill one another. The two went on with their missions, promising to meet again afterwards to discuss matters. They started meeting up in secret and soon enough they fell in love. The two of them became infatuated with the idea of abandoning it all, and running away together. The stress of their work eventually caught up to them, and Vin did not want to have to choose between Marko and Bull any longer. Vin and Runa both went to live in her friend's home, which was given to them as a gift. Vin was ecstatic when he discovered that the house used to be an old Resistance clinic, and she was just happy to have a proper home. They got married as soon as they could, with The Lake Spirit's blessings. They had Adi about a year later, and have lived in that home ever since.

SM

During the later stages of Runa's pregnancy, Vin got a distress call that seemed to have come from Bull himself. The signal came from a nearby building under the control of Bull's Army, rather than from Ishalla. His decision to check it out revealed a building in ruins, and he could sense no survivors in the wreckage. As he looked throughout the area, other Demons joined in to aid in search efforts. Someone alerted him to a gravely injured child nearby, and Vin rushed the child back to his home in an effort to save his life. Vin managed to save the young boy's life. Vin, seeing this as both another project as well as an opportunity to greatly improve the boy's life, set to work on a synthetic arm and leg to replace the ones the child lost. The boy spoke nothing for a little over a year since his arrival at Vin's home, but it was chalked up to be due to trauma and Vin hoped the boy would eventually open up to them if they all treated him with kindness. Once Adi was born, the boy grew attached to her, always eager to hold her. Eventually, he opened up to Vin, and he learned everything about the boy. Vin was dumbstruck at the realization of just who's child he had come into contact with, and became all the more protective over him. In the end, the boy asked to be called by his initials, SM, and Vin obliged.
Vin grew more attached to SM as he took to training him. SM began living on his own once he joined The Resistance and never spoke of his relationship with Vin and his family, for their safety, but he visited whenever he had the chance. When Vin lost contact with SM over the last five years, VIn grew depressed and drank more than usual.

Nika Terrin and Kian Terrin

About a year after SM's arrival at Vin's home, Kitasun contacted Vin about two children in need of a home. Up to their heads in small children at the time, Vin and Runa declined, but Vin grew curious about the situation due to Kit's insistence. In the end the two of them found it difficult to deny children in need. After all, they certainly have the rooms for more. The two were accepted into their home with love. Vin took to training the three adopted children who resided in his household. Nika grew attached rather quickly to her new parental figures, enjoying the company of SM regardless of whether or not he talked to her. Kian however, chose to remain distant compared to the other children. While Nika considered this to be her new family, Kian was quite content being without one.
Nika and Kian both got a handle on their abilities and decided to leave this home and work for The Resistance. Nika was homesick the whole time and quit soon after, choosing to remain at Vin's home and follow in his footsteps to becoming a Neutral Healer. She continues to live with them to this day.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Vin Corvil is known by a few in Bull's Army for his assistance in taking down the Ishallan Government in order for Bull to take over. Only Bull knows the exact details of what took place, as only the two of them were present at that point in time. The two of them insisted on a story to leave Vin out of the event because of his wish to live a calm life in the Forest, not rule Ishalla.
He is the only known Neutral Healer at his current rank.
He developed his own system for ranking powers, the Corvil Demon Power Ranking System, which is still used by Bull's troops today. A variation of this system was adopted by The Resistance.
Vin is also the most popular Neutral synthetics Healer, known for excellent work in creating and repairing synthetic parts and flesh. His work is funded by both Bull's Army as well as The Resistance.

Failures & Embarrassments

He feels like he failed his brother by choosing to side with Bull rather than him. Because of this, his help in Bull's takeover of Ishalla is a well-kept secret within Bull's Army.

Mental Trauma

The Demon residing in Vin's Mindscape has left him with multiple complications in his daily life. The Demon's name is Sel.

• Due to its selfish nature, Sel has forced Vin's Mindscape to be inaccessible by anyone aside from the two of them. However, Vin's inner self is also not able to communicate with others because of this. Nobody can enter his head, and he can't enter theirs. Telepathy is not possible for him.
• Sel's influence on his mind and abilities has turned him into quite the insomniac. He averages a couple of hours of sleep every night, and never naps. Because of this, he is tired a majority of the time. He always says he "feels fine."

Vin is very much a naturalist and a logical thinker. He shares a love for plants and animals with his partner, and reads any research papers sent to him from any organization he works with. He has an eagerness for learning and understanding of the science behind repairing synthetic parts that few have.

Vin keeps in touch with organizations such as Bull's Army, The Resistance, and others. He is viewed as an individual worth having as an ally, for the sake of any troops caught out in Neutral territory in need of aid.

Family Ties

• Marko Corvil, Vin's brother, rarely contacts him aside from any work-related questions. Vin thinks dearly of his brother, but does not agree with all his methods.
• Vin has a wife by the name of Runa Albier. She is 50 years old and they have been married for roughly 14 years now. They both love one another and their daughter very much.
• Vin's daughter, Adi, is 13 years old. She loves her parents and studies hard to be more like her father, although she doesn't seem to have a knack for the same things he enjoys.
• Shadow is a Demon who was adopted as a sort of pet and companion to the family. He grew fond of Adi and asked to stay, and was welcome to do so. Adi named him.
• Vin loves SM like a son, and SM sees him as one of the most important people in his life.
• Nika Terrin was also adopted into the family later on, and she loves Vin like a father.
• Kian Terrin was adopted along with Nika into the family, but he never grew to care about Vin and his wife and daughter like his sister did.

Social Aptitude

Vin is a social butterfly at heart. When he isn't working on one of his many projects, he most definitely talks about them. He spends his free time aiding his wife, Runa, in educating their daughter, Adi. When Runa takes Adi out to the towns on business meetings, Vin takes the opportunity to either get out of the house, drink, or work on his projects. Much of the time however, he will spend his time at home hoping for surprise visits from any travelers.
Charismatic and shows care to everyone he meets. He enjoys meeting new individuals, and invites both Humans and Demons to his home for a drink sometimes. He can communicate in multiple languages and thanks to his experience with his daughter and other children, he is capable of handling individuals from any age group.
He is most popular around a chain of hot springs near his house, about a half hour walking distance from there. He tries to visit the hot springs at least once a week to socialize, and this is where he meets many members of other organizations just to talk about current events. Since the hot springs are also in Neutral territory, he gets to see a variety of individuals, many of which are even more eager to talk with someone like Vin.
He seldom visits nearby towns, as the ones nearby are not located within Neutral territory. For his own safety he tries not to visit unless it is imperative and hopefully with an escort of some kind. In a few instances he went alone but these were extreme cases that involved saving someone's life. Neutral towns are a fair distance away and could take over half a day of walking and he prefers going there with his family rather than alone.

Mannerisms

He makes many different hand gestures when he speaks, moving tools and anything else in his hands with abandon, but his eyes will always stay on whatever he is currently focused on.

Vin enjoys socializing, gardening, reading, hands-on projects such as working on synthetic parts, and Healing.

• Has a fairly deep voice, and talks calmly in most situations that do not involve risking the lives of others.
• He talks so low that people often wonder what he is muttering under his breath.

• Casually swears when he isn't around his daughter. When Adi is around he might just wring the neck of anyone who curses.

• 1. C/B. Self-Transport: Vin managed to Teleport himself once as a child purely by accident, although he messed up his Teleport and ended up phasing his left arm halfway through a wall. The experience was one of the most painful ones he endured as a small child, and he never wanted to learn how to control it ever since that day.

Abstract Powers

Vin has multiple Abstract Powers, however they can be summed up as Spacial Distortion. While other abilities are enhanced, a specific part is unique to Sel. Sel's specialty is Spacial Turning, but to a much stronger degree than any Human can reach. Sel is capable of actually distorting space around Vin in order to make him appear in a completely different place than he really is in. Vin can make multiple images of himself, each acting individually but still being strictly him.
Relatively Harmless: 1 The ability has while it has absolutely no immediate or even rather life-threatening effects. However, he has become an insomniac and extremely tired due to prolonged use.
Very Little Control: 4 Vin has no control over who this ability gets used on. He cannot turn it off in any way and is left up to Sel's judgement. Sel, being as selfish and protective of Vin as he is, does not allow for this gift to be used on other people. Much to Vin's dismay, under any grave circumstances he would not be able to protect his family the same way he can protect himself. He can control a few aspects though, such as removing the Spacial Turn surrounding his home and appearing in multiple places at once.
Resourceful: 5 The abilities granted to him have definitely come in handy in life, but this one has served as a lifesaver later on.
Compatible: 5 This power works perfectly in conjunction with other powers such as Healing and Turning. The ability on its own is a more advanced form of Turning.

Marko Corvil

HISTORY: As identical twins, they The two looked up to one another, but as their powers grew and more travelers tried to pick them us as students for themselves, their interests diverged and they quickly drifted apart.
NICKNAMES & PETNAMES: Marko had a variety of names for Vin when they were children, such as Flower Boy, Puppy, and more lovingly, Shit-face. Vin referred to Marko jokingly as Older Brother, because they knew that while they were identical twins, Marko came out first, but this annoyed Marko to no end.
RELATIONSHIP REASONING: They became friends quickly due to them sharing a squad. Vin was placed in one of two squads being under Bull's control, and the two of them just clicked. Bull found himself curious about Vin and his past relationships with Demons. Vin considered him to be a pest at first, but they quickly bonded over Bull's stash of Dez in his room. Later on they started discussing issues on politics and relations between Humans and Demons, and talk about Ishalla came about, and soon enough they had a plan for trying to take over the city. Many years after the Ishalla takeover, Vin found himself as the new guardian for Bull's son, SM. Due to the events that almost led to SM's death, Bull was surprised to find out that Vin had been taking care of his kid later on. Bull keeps in touch with Vin to know how SM is doing, but Vin considers himself to be the main guardian at this rate, not Bull.
COMMONALITIES & SHARED INTERESTS: They shared a great passion for Healing until Marko decided to split off from their twin agenda in their birth town. They both enjoyed hunting with their mother and father as kids.
SHARED SECRETS: In their first hunting trip together when they were around 14, they accidentally killed two small children who were playing in the thicket out in the Forest. They were both horrified when they discovered that Marko's hunting bow speared both children through the head with one arrow. They never told their parents what happened, and instead said that they saw a large demon in the Forest that scared them too much. Their father never found any trace of the large demon they mentioned, but he never found the two dead children either.

The Bull

HISTORY: They were in a relationship together back when they worked in the same organization, and later took over Ishalla together. After that, they parted ways but remained close friends.
NICKNAMES & PETNAMES: Bull's nicknames for Vin were generally related to anything medicine-related and generally taken from what he heard Vin say recently. Vinny, Nurse, World's Worst Undertaker, Pilly, etc. Vin's favorite pastime involved teasing Bull about their relationship. He enjoyed calling Bull a "dirty boy" whenever it fit the mood. This in turn annoyed Bull to no end, as it took jabs at his powers as well as his goals in the middle of Vin's work hours.
