Empress-Consort Maxim?
Throughout his many visits to Wakigami Castle, Knight Commander Maxim has found himself in the company of an unlikely acquaintance: Empress Genmei herself. Perhaps, as with his Kamui encounters, it is Maxim's very status as an outsider which allows him to interact with the legends of Japan on such a casual level.
Genmei appears to enjoy his visits for her part. Indeed, few others in the Hashinara Clan even know that she, venerated ancestor of Daimyō Hashinara Katamoto, is still alive long after her rule ended. By the same token, Genmei has shown great reluctance in leaving her self-imposed imprisonment within the castle. She cannot allow herself to alter the flow of the nation with her presence and power, a future which she believes belongs to her descendants and which she should have no hand in.
Most recently, however, Maxim has convinced her otherwise over a momentous chess game. As the Knight Commander's adviser, it would be he, and not Genmei herself, who plots the future through the actions they take. With this justification in mind, she proceeded to move into Makami-jō and join the Wolfpack under an assumed name. Naturally, Prince Hozumi would be accompanying her as well.
