Summary:
The daughter of Hosokawa Fujitaka and current Vassal-Daimyo of the Hosokawa Clan, once a prestigious general of the Oda. Her current body, created by Takenaka Hanbei, closely resembles that of an Oni, albeit a small and graceful specimen of the species. She has a demeanor which varies between volatile and uncouth to professional and ladylike depending on the situation, and is famous for having a short temper. It's said that she still holds a grudge against Katsusada Shishauezaemon for the horrors he inflicted upon her. In combat, Gracia is a powerful lone force with techniques which use her Ki to protect herself and devastate large groups of enemies. In her free time, she enjoys socializing with Sen no Rikyū and slowly, laboriously, writing haiku.Mental characteristics
Personal history
Upon her father, Hosokawa Fujitaka‘s death, Hosokawa Gracia traveled, with an Oda escort, from her position in Owari Province back toward Izumi Province to claim her inherited title of clan Daimyō. However, while passing through Yamashiro Province, her progress was hindered by a series of bandit attacks. Suspecting her contingent to be the beginnings of an Oda invasion, an allied force composed of members from the Hashinara and Ryūzōji clans ambushed her at a fortress just outside the province’s border with Yamato Province.
Alongside Sen no Rikyū, Gracia fought ferociously, destroying an entire squad of Bakeneko and severely wounding Ryūzōji Takanobu before being brought down and killed by heavy arrow fire.
Some time later, Hosokawa Gracia’s body was resurrected by Katsusada Shishauezaemon with her memories and personality, but not her soul. Ichinomiya Karen helped in modifying said memories, causing the “new” Gracia to believe that she had been saved by, rather than killed by, the Hashinara Clan, and that she was an old friend of Hashinara Yoshiyuki. In addition, Shishauezaemon requested that she be made to believe that the day on which she had been revived was her birthday, before waking her and taking her, in a fatherly manner, to her “birthday party”, attended by many of the clan’s finest as well as visiting dignitaries.
At the same time, the true Gracia's soul was trapped in a magical crystal held on Katsusada Shishauezaemon's body. Having gained the other's trust, Sen no Rikyū was able to steal her essence away and take it to Ise Province, where @Takenaka Hanbeiperson) created her a new body, formed in the shape of an Oni to represent her desire for vengeance.
When the Hashinara attacked Ise, the new Gracia was on the front lines, eager to lay into the enemy forces which had brought her so much pain. It was then that she was horrified to see herself, fighting on the side of the Hashinara, seemingly without a hint of guile or awareness of her situation. Unfortunately, Gracia was soon defeated and captured by a squad of ninja, while her double was killed in action by Oda forces.
The true Gracia was brought back to Yamato Province, where she was offered a position as a general under the Hashinara. Though she originally refused, wanting to have nothing to do with Katsusada Shishauezaemon and the atrocities he committed, she was eventually convinced by the assertion that this would be the only way for her to reclaim a least a small amount of the Hosokawa Clan's honor. Begrudgingly, she accepted the position.
Significantly later, and much disgruntled by the sudden disappearance of her friend Sen no Rikyū, Gracia was heartened by the news that Oda Nobunaga herself had made peace with the Hashinara, and was in Wakigami discussing political matters with the clan's head generals. As part of Nobunaga's stipulations, Sen no Rikyū was returned from her exile, and Gracia was made Vassal-Daimyō over her hereditary holdings in Izumi Province. This mollified her somewhat, though she had still not forgiven Shishauezaemon for his actions.
Only a few days later, however, Gracia received wonderful news. Katsusada Shishauezaemon was dead, killed by a Tokugawa operative. More, Ryūzaki Sanosuke, a powerful general of the clan, had personally visited her to apologize for their actions against her, as well as to initiate relations between the Hosokawa and the Ryūzōji Clan, who had been displaced by her father. Gracia herself wished to make amends for her father's actions against the Bakeneko, and thanked Sanosuke for this chance. With this, alongside the death of the man who had made her life hell, she had little reason to continue animosity against the Hashinara.
