Kodama Sosen
Ball Mouse Merchant
(a.k.a. 小玉 鼠禅)
Summary
A cunning rat who became a yōkai far earlier than is usual. Perhaps that's why she's so small. Kodama Sosen is colloquially known as the "Ball Mouse" in the towns that she frequents. Her tiny stature, combined with the big backpack she carries everywhere, give the impression of a round ball trotting across the ground wherever she goes. Curiously, the bag doesn't seem to weigh anything. Even tiny Sosen can carry it with ease. Despite this, it has an apparently endless capacity for storage. If Sosen can fit it into the bag's mouth, she can and will carry it from town to town. Her near-infinite stock of anything from curiosities to rice and tools make her a popular figure amongst the mountain villages of Japan. Even those that usually turn away yōkai have a hard time seeing the tiny rat merchant as any kind of threat. It's fortunate that Sosen has such an eye for quality. She's a skilled trader as well, with a sharp mind and unyielding force of personality at odds with her cheerful round face. Such a skilled individual could easily find a home managing inventory for any of the major clans across the land. Perhaps Sosen is just waiting for the right price.
