Ancient Kensei Minamoto no Yoshitsune (a.k.a. 源 義経)

Summary:

One of the great heroes of Japan, as well as nemesis to one of its greatest villains. Minamoto no Yoshitsune has survived since times ancient through mastery of Ki and a pact with a powerful being. Following the defeat of Taira no Kiyomori at her own hand, she has fallen into relative obscurity, merely travelling the land and righting wrongs as she found them while in search of her servant, Musashibō Benkei. Their reunion was eventually facilitated in modern times by the Hashinara Clan, and both have chosen to serve them for a time in gratitude.
Yoshitsune is confident and aloof at times, yet unfailingly polite. Her manner of speech is a relic of her own era, and causes her to seem overly formal to most people who interact with her. She holds a strong sense of justice, but does not exercise it as freely as she once did. Still, she is not one to stand by and let injustice happen when she has the means to stop it.
In battle, she commands a powerful series of Ki techniques known as the Seals of the Dragon, which increase her power incrementally as she opens them, but at rising risk to her own body. Yoshitsune also holds the legendary Shichiseiken, a blade which is said to be able to cut through any material.
Due perhaps to the chaos of her previous life, she finds pleasure in simple pursuits. As such, her hobbies are of the mundane sort, and she largely spends her free time cleaning, quietly enjoying tea, or helping Benkei organize her massive weapon collection.

Unique Abilities:

Rise to the Challenge: Minamoto no Yoshitsune's experience with the blade is such that there is no enemy she cannot wound, given the opportunity. Once per target per combat, Minamoto no Yoshitsune may choose to ignore one of the following qualities of an enemy whenever she attacks them:

• Enemy AT
• Damage Barrier
• Physical Immunity

In order to ignore a certain quality, Yoshitsune must have seen the target use it to defend, whether against an attack from herself or from another creature. She does not, however, need to know the specifics of what was used. Once a quality is chosen to be ignored, this choice is final, and the effect persists until the enemy in question is either killed or experiences drastic changes to its body. Use of this ability is a passive action.

Personal history

Minamoto no Yoshitsune encountered Matsutada Tadamatsu on his return from Wakigami and, after hearing his tale, agreed to protect him from the Hashinara goons who were surely, even now, in pursuit of him. When the goons did show up, they turned out to merely be Aotsuki Tsukamoto, who, with his good looks and charm, was able to explain the situation and resolve it without violence.
Yoshitsune, her services not needed for this engagement, agreed to see Tadamatsu safely back to Echizen Province. She asked Aotsuki, and the rest of the Hashinara by extension, to keep an eye out for her servant Musashibō Benkei before taking her leave.
Yoshitsune later appeared as a participant in the tournament held by Katsusada Shishauezaemon to celebrate his declaration of war upon the Oda Clan. Having come to Yamato Province in order to seek out Benkei, who may also have been lured by the tournament, she instead faced a nomadic fighter called Nanami in the first round. Despite Nanami’s acrobatic and mobile abilities being far superior to her own, Yoshitsune’s greater skill with the blade and the power of Shichiseiken itself helped her to win the battle.
In Yoshitsune’s second battle, against Okuni, the two fought for only a few seconds before she attacked the Hitotsume with a series of sword strikes, accidentally killing her on the third. Yoshitsune was devastated by her unintentional murder, and was thus extremely relieved when Hakutaku rewound time around Okuni, reviving her in mid-dodge. When the situation and Hakutaku’s actions were explained to her, Okuni withdrew from the match, making Yoshitsune the victor.
