Ryūzōji Masaie
Administrator of Osaka
Minister Ryūzōji Masaie (a.k.a. 龍造寺 正家)
Summary:
A Bakeneko general who was a founding member of the Ryūzōji Clan. Ryūzōji Masaie fell once in battle, and now exists as an Undead version of her previous self, though she has managed to retain her soul. This, combined with a vow of peace taken to Ame-no-Hiboko, has caused a radical shift in how she serves her clan. Though before she was an intelligence gatherer, scout, and skirmish combatant with a bow, she now remains at Osaka Castle and administrates clan business, aided by the blessing of knowledge bestowed upon her. Masaie is a straightforward and blunt individual, but she cares deeply about those who surround her, particularly the other members of the Ryūzōji Clan. Ever poor at expressing her emotions though words, she prefers to let her actions speak for themselves. This has been challenging in her new role, but she continues to do her best to adapt. Her hobbies, which she now has much more time to pursue, are collecting rocks perfect for skipping on water and digging her bare toes into soft earth.Mental characteristics
Personal history
When the Hashinara Clan met with the Ryūzōji, after being told to wipe them out by Matsutada Tadamatsu, Masaie remained skeptical of the other army. Though she did not openly oppose an alliance, she seemed on edge throughout the entire discussion, and, more than once, spat insults seemingly directed at Ryūzaki Sanosuke.
Masaie proved to be in favor of the Hashinara plan to take Izumi Province without undue violence, but only under the condition that Hosokawa Fujitaka be killed after some well-deserved torture.
Upon discovering that Hosokawa Gracia was moving through Yamashiro Province with an escort to claim rule over Izumi, Ryūzōji Masaie was sent as the leader of a small contingent of Bakeneko and samurai from Setsu Province to aid in the Hashinara ambush of her force. During an intense and bloody battle, Masaie was severely wounded by a powerful attack from Gracia, then killed by a squad of Oda samurai.
A few days after the battle, Sen no Rikyū, under duress from Katsusada Shishauezaemon, returned to the battlefield and collected Masaie’s soul, storing it in a crystal. The two then traveled to Osaka and, with Ryūzōji Matashichirō‘s permission, Shishauezaemon proceeded to raise Masaie’s corpse as an Undead creature, after which Rikyū returned to it her soul.
Initially confused, Masaie quickly returned to action, somewhat puzzled by her lack of need for food or sleep, both of which the magicians simply claimed were side effects of the magic used to “heal” her.
