Shogun's Moldering Throne
It is no secret that the Ashikaga Shogunate has suffered a steep decline in power over recent years. The growing boldness of landowning lords and the rapid change of power multiple times in a short window have both contributed to the central military government becoming little more than a figurehead. What's more, the Imperial Court has distanced itself from its other half, all but disowning the current regime. Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiaki has been well displeased with this state of affairs, and rumors abound that she has turned to Daemonology and other forbidden arts to restore the power of her rank.
More recently, however, the situation seems even worse. In her public appearances over the past few days, Ashikaga Yoshiaki has been quiet, almost lifeless. If not for the occasional muttered word and the rise and fall of her chest, most would think her a corpse who had been set convincingly in a chair. Once agents of the Hashinara Clan detected whiffs of necromancy upon the Shogun, it was all but confirmed. By all appearances, Chitosemaru, a mysterious daemonologist and necromancer, is now the true power behind the Shogunate. What's more, Chitosemaru seems to know Hashinara Katamoto personally and at least suspects his influence behind the current Hashinara Clan.
