Amago Haruhisa vs. Yufu Korenobu

Sporting Event / Competition

Day 2; Independent Match 9

Rounding out the independent matches for the morning was the long-awaited battle featuring Amago Haruhisa, daughter of Shuten-dōji and Ibaraki-dōnyo, and vassal-daimyō of the Amago Clan. Facing her was Yufu Korenobu of the Tachibana, now under Hashinara command.

As the match began, Haruhisa noted Ryūzaki Sanosuke's raucous cheering from the crowd, and then made her first move by throwing her massive steel war fan at her opponent. Korenobu parried this easily, but while she did, Haruhisa had covered the distance between them and both were engaged in melee.   A few tentative attacks followed, both of the giant women attempting to feel out the other's strength. They bantered briefly, too, displaying a similar temperament. Eventually, Korenobu broke the stalemate by swinging several times with all her strength behind her mighty katana. Haruhisa, however, blocked each attack handily with her war fan. What impact did get through was not enough to pierce her sturdy oni flesh.   Once that assault was done, Haruhisa took her turn at attacking. Drawing back one mighty gauntlet, she punched Korenobu with explosive force. For her part, the Second Wall blocked the attack fully. Such was the immense, ferocious strength behind the blow, however, that Korenobu was launched from the ground, through the wall of the arena, and into the forest beyond, crashing a path through the trees as she was driven over a mile from the battleground.   An uncertain silence descended, but after a few moments with no reappearance, Mōri Motonari declared Yufu Korenobu unable to fight. Therefore, Amago Haruhisa was the winner.   At the declaration, Fubuki snapped her fingers. With enough speed to elicit what was not the first sonic boom of the day, a sleek black fox vanished into the distance and returned moments later with Korenobu in its claws. The Twin Wall took her loss in stride, instead redoubling her efforts to cheer on her partner, Ono Shigeyuki.
