Iva

Basic Information

Anatomy

Described by many Fey sources, from literature to first-person accounts, the Iva are shapeshifters whose natural form is almost always seen as a pale white humanoid with pure white eyes, no pupils, and hair. They are often described as monochromatic in appearance though not in personality.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Iva are very charismatic, often able to persuade and deceive others quickly and effectively. This charismatic lifestyle is only enhanced by their ability to shapeshift into other individuals they had seen in the past. This has made them out to be a danger in the eyes of commoners and even much of the nobility.

History

The Iva are a rare people whose origins lie in the Eternal Forest. The Iva are Fey creatures whose name originates in an ancient Tundruskan Myth depicting a man named Ivan and his foolish nature. In the myth, a peasant man appeared in the court of an ancient king, whose name is up for debate, and through his naive and jovial nature, had accidentally saved the king’s daughter, leading to a royal marriage and Ivan’s inheritance of the kingdom. While the myth originated as a message that one that appears as a fool is not always one, it has acquired a new meaning after sources from the Eternal Forest claim that Ivan was a Fey, if he even existed, who had tricked people into underestimating him by appearing as a naive peasant. From then on, the collection of trickster Fey that changed forms or appearance have been known as the Iva, derived from the name Ivan.   Iva typically come from one of two backgrounds. Either they were raised in the Eternal Forest with other Iva, and have a liking for other Fey. These Iva tend to enjoy deceiving and tricking others and celebrate many of the same things that other Fey would in terms of spirituality and holidays. Most Iva are born amongst humans and raised either by humans or with them. They tend to appreciate humanity more and have a greater aptitude for shapeshifting, due to the wide variety of humanoids they see around them. These Iva tend to be more neutral, but are heavily influenced by the cultures around them.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

In reality, most Iva are selfish creatures, but are no more evil than the average man, meaning much of the hate and stigma against them is baseless. The hate against Iva has died down slightly, as more attention is focused to those of demonic spawn as well as other humans, as wars of revolt and rebellion begin to rage both below and above the Rift.
