King

Requirements

A King must be of noble birth and have some familial relation to the previous King. This has led to nearly every King of Baydric to be human, due to the founders of both nations being of the human species.

Appointment

One is raised to the rank of King upon the death of the previous King. The new King must be crowned by a high priest of Coitism, the religion spread throughout the Western Obohrlansk region.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a King are to rule over the lands which their nation owns and to preserve the well-being of their people and themselves.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

There are no legal ways for the removal of a King other than a trial by combat upon the appearance of another eligible heir. Some kings have been usurped in the past, but that method is neither legal nor encouraged.

Cultural Significance

The title of King has further enhanced the feudal class divide between the members of nobility/aristocrats and the poorer common-folk that make up most of the world's population. Kings are seen as people to be revered and those who are all powerful, due to their control over entire nations both in terms of law and geopolitical issues. The title of King is not widespread, seen only in the kingdoms of Baydric which are considered by some to be illegitimate states, meaning the holders of the title aren't acknowledged as all-powerful leaders apart from the people who live in the lands they control.
