The Runcarving Knife is a knife that can be made out of various materials and is a premier tool for carving runes.

This is what you hear and what the Suleri salesmen will tell you. And then you buy their knives for a fortune. But they are long gone when you try them for the first time. Don't be fooled.

Rune carving knives could be made in the ways descibed above but they might not really be the best choice. Established wisdom asks for hardened metal, steel with some God's Grey if you go for the best and can afford it, but any hardened steel will do as long as it has been crafted without magic applicated during the process. The secret to the good knive is a drop of the future users blood in the oil or water used for the tempering. A Synchronization process of a dozen or so carvings will acomplish almost the same, almost.
