Type Moon/Nasuverse vs Tynaria Alt
Notes from the world Author
Tynaria Alt's setting and campaigns are greatly inspired by Type-Moon's system of Servants and Masters. However, in order to make the system 5e compatible, many changes were made to how servants, masters, and the magic system worked. The following list shows off several notable changes on how the system works when compared to the Type Moon/Nasuverse:
- Command Seals: Command Seals mostly maintain their canon abilities, with the big ones being able to force one's servant to do any doable action or to recall a servant after they've gone too far away from the normal recall distance. In canon Fate, Command Seals can provide servants with great amounts of magical energy to empower them, something that is not possible in Tynaria Alt as of 2024.
- Gaia-Stella/Chaldea: The Gaia-Stella Organization is essentially Tynaria Alt's version of the Chaldea Security Organization in Fate/Grand Order. Gaia-Stella works to make sure that singularities or Temporal Rips are properly contained and dealt with. Unlike in FGO, the temporal rips aren't due to Beasts of Humanity or Demon Gods, but rather from alternate timelines or parallel universes that have some other sort of unchained power that threatens to go beyond its own timeline/boundaries, thus making them also akin to "Lostbelts."
- Holy Grails: In Tynaria Alt, Holy Grails themselves are not a creation of a few mage families that try to seek the root of all-powerful magic. Rather, the original Holy Grail was an item gifted by the gods that created Tynaria Alt soon before they eventually left the world to run itself. The corruption of the Holy Grail in the 4th century was not due to a mage family summoning a forbidden servant that tainted the Grail, but rather was due to a coalition of evil mages that wanted to sow chaos on Tynaria Alt. Before the incident, the Holy Grail was used to kept a surprising amount of peace across the world, as it only appeared to those who it deemed "worthy" of its powers.
- Holy Grail Wars: Holy Grail Wars on Tynaria Alt are on a much larger scale than a traditional Grail War. The similarity is more akin to Fate/Apocrypha, where it's a Team Deathmatch event, rather than just a free-for-all between 7 chosen masters. The Holy Grail itself is also much more plentiful in wishes, allowing for minor wishes to be granted to surviving participants of the winning party, while the head of the party is granted the true Wish.
- Mana/Magical Energy: In Tynaria Alt, "mana" is used synomously to mean all forms of magical energy. This is in contrast to Type Moon referring to "magical energy" as a general term, with "mana" being from the world and "od" being from people (aka Life Force). This is really only applicable to summoners who have to provide mana to their servant(s) in order to keep them present and battle-ready. Mana can be converted from one's spell slots, but not vice-versa. Additionally, servants can not harvest magical energy from living sources (killing creatures does not sustain them). Only magical energy sustained by their masters or, if independently manifested, from the world can keep them alive.
- Manifestation of Servants: Servants can be summoned at any time by a competent summoner, regardless if a Holy Grail or HGW is present. Additionally, instances of a servant independently manifesting is much more common in the setting of Tynaria Alt, especially if a proper Grail is present in the world at the moment.
- Servant Power Levels: Servants in Tynaria Alt are significantly weaker than their canon counterparts. Pretty much all servants need to fit into a character sheet that is somewhat cookie-cutter. While many instances of servants retaining similar abilities from systems like in Fate/Grand Order, the sheer power that certain abilities can grant may cause problems in game-balance. Noble Phantasms that would originally be able to destroy nearly anything in canon, will be reduced to effects that are only as powerful as 5e can grant player characters.
- Summoner Masters: Summoner Masters, originally "mages" in canon, are much more flexible in creation and upbringing. In canon, mages are incredibly rare and are greatly dependent on familial lines of magic. In Tynaria Alt, Summoners are more like wizards and sorcerers. Its possible to study hard in the art of Summoning in order to develop a mana pool strong enough to sustain a servant. At the same time, it's also possible for some to be naturally gifted with a powerful well of magic that makes summoning a servant possible, without proper education. Summoner masters of Tynaria Alt are also much more independent than in canon, being considered full-casters and able to cast powerful/famous spells like Fireball and Lightning Bolt.
