座頭 市 (a.k.a. The Blind Swordsman)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Zatoichi is a man of average build. He has short black hair, slightly tanned skin, and wears very simple clothing. His eyes were originally brown, but have gone cloudy due to the childhood illness and lack of use.

Facial Features

While he does try to groom, being a wandering man doesn't always allow this. When he has facial hair, it's usually in the form of a ducktail beard and mustache.

Identifying Characteristics

Zatoichi's most identifying feature is his white clouded eyes. Those who know of Zatoichi's name know well that lack of sight doesn't mean lack of lethality, especially for him.

Special abilities

Despite his blindness, Zatoichi has a surprisingly strong sense of his surroundings. Some may describe his awareness like a bat using echolocation in pitch black. However it may be, Zatoichi is surprisingly hard to catch off-guard, even if one were to think of him as some blind man.
Zatoichi's Noble Phantasm is known famously as the Zatoichi Flash Cut. This Noble Phantasm manifests itself in his cane sword. Similar to the likes of Sasaki Kojiro and Okita Souji, this move uses very little, if any, magic at all. It is instead a manifestation of Zatoichi's sheer skill in the blade. Upon activation, Zatoichi quickly draws out his sword, makes several slashes in front of him, and then stows his sword back into the cane. Right as the sword is fully put back, the slash wounds will show themselves, usually in the form of gushes of blood. Because of its reliance on skill rather than magical energy, this ability can be used once a day.

Apparel & Accessories

Zatoichi is usually seen wearing very simple clothes. Usually nothing more complex than a brown tunic-like robe and white undershirt.

Specialized Equipment

Zatoichi's primary weapon is a hidden katana-like blade concealed in a walking cane. While it may not be a master-crafted sword that a noble samurai would use, it has been able to take down some of the most proficient adversaries that Zatoichi has come across.

Personal history

Masseur, gambler, and an adept swordsman, Zatoichi was a man of several abilities. His most interesting trait, and most famous trait of all, is the fact that he has been blind since childhood. He suffered an unknown illness as a toddler and while he mostly recovered, his eyesight was lost. Despite this, Zatoichi trained himself to adapt to his new condition of blindness. 
Zatoichi learned massaging, as it was a common profession for the visually impaired to take up. When he wasn't massaging his clients, he would either play dice games in local taverns. Zatoichi has no home and wanders the lands, going from settlement to settlement. His biggest strength above all else is his remarkable swordsmanship. Zatoichi has encountered a multitude of brigands and bandits, all of whom were taken aback by his deadly sword skills. He primarily fights against brigands and bandits due to his simple yet noble goal of protecting the innocent.

Zatoichi travels across the lands, with his primary job being a masseur.
