Mind Flayed: Game 18

General Summary

After defeating murdering its sleep the great dragon Calastryx and giving the great necromancer lich Yarlzedd no opportunity to defend himself, The Company of the Furies: Eumenides is now in search of the heart of a fire giant King Snurre, which is necessary to activate the teleportation room back to Sentinel Fortress, Adlerweg Keep or to the lair of the Drow in the underdark.   The Company obtained Yarlzedd's magic spell book, passed by the Drow guards across the river of lava, encountered and parlayed with a second group of Drow guards, defeated three Illithids, and ended the session resting in a magical hideaway.   Before the next game, the spell casters should take the time to choose their spells.

Lich's Plunder

Yarlzedd kept his most precious magic items in onyx and obsidian lava rock box that was part of the floor. The Company was able to extract the lich's spell book. Other potential great treasures were within, however, they were clearly guarded by dark and demonic forces, and the Company elected to let them be.

Room 18: Small Cavern with Drow

The Company was able to parlay with the Drow guards in this small cavern taking advantage of Basillea's status as a former member of the Order of the Necromantia.   There were 9 Drow from the House of Hun'ett. These included the leader, a female warrior, Akordia Tuin Hun’ett, and her two warrior lieutenants, Nadal Minolin Hun’ett (male) and Larynada Zolond Hun’ett (female).   The Company learns that the Drow in the lair of the Fire Giant King Snurre are made up of four separate "Houses" the great City of Spiders, Menzoberranzan, a large underground drow city-state in the Upper Northdark: the Hun'ett, Millithor, Despana, and Eilserv.
  • The Hun'ett are considered the "Fifth House" but are not one of the great eight noble houses.
  • The Millithor the "Twenty Fourth House."
  • Eilserv are one of the eight great noble houses and ranked high among the great noble houses. Their device of house Eilservs is a copper staff and their queen is Eclavdra.
  • Despona are one of the eight great noble houses and ranked third among them. Their sigil is an adamantine mace.
The Company also learns that the head drow here is Eclavdra, and Nedylene, a female drow cleric of House Despana has been sent to check in on how Eclavdra's evil plans are developing. So far and potentially unknown to both Eclavdra and Nedylene, their plans for a Fire Giant invasion, the return of The Rise of the Undead, and conquest of the Inner Reaches all the way to Eastpoint Castle have been a complete failure.

Room 19: Mind Flayers, the Illithids

When light strikes the walls of this cavern, mineral deposits make the place glitter and sparkle as if it were sown with jewels. This breath taxingly beautiful room was the lair of three Mind Flayers, who have been monitoring their friendly enemies, the Drow. The Company killed two Illithids, and one escaped. The Company then decided to rest, hiding in a rope trick.   They were wearing flowing robes, with high stiff collars adorned with symbols of death and despair. The two dead mind flayers had 15 rubies worth 100 gp each. Not mentioned in the game, but there was small black metal and locked box.
