Birthdays and Reflections in Delacroix

Birthdays in the Delacroix kingdom are treated as a different type of coming-of-age celebration, instead of another step to adulthood, or even a spontaneously switch from minor to adult, it is considered a period of reflection. The week surrounding one's birthday is spent listing out all of one's mistakes, feelings both good and bad, heartache and joy, and used to determine how one wishes to grow in the next year.
Of course, this isn't always the case, children from newborn to around five years are met with toys and cheer, promises, and deals to encourage them to grow and develop faster.

In Adulthood

As one grows older in Delacroix they are expected to change, closer to they're own idealized version of themselves. This is said to be a major contribution to the rate of success among middle and late age groups.

Celebration

As with most celebrations around birthdays, many family and close friends gather to bring attention to the birthday person(s) in question. Since it is a week-long ordeal in Delacroix the first half of the week is spent giving gifts that represent the past, whether a type of clothing they used to wear or even memorabilia from big events. The day itself is a light feast, followed by a reveal of what the special person's focus for the next year will be. Sweets aren't a big thing in Delacroix, and not many are able to hold huge or fanciful parties, so most make do with a trip either out to the sea or the surrounding wild plains.
This trip lasts for the remainder of the celebration, and those who attend it bring supplies to aid in hunting or fishing. They also offer advice or ideas that connect to the next year's focus, insight if they've done it, or if they know how difficult it is. The last day of this trip while everyone gets ready to return, a fire is lit, and any forms that represent a negative or harmful memory of the last year are thrown in. This acts as a form of stress relief, letting go of trauma or embarrassment or negativity in order to start anew.
