The Enemy is Nature
It is well-known that Ultimus is full of wonderful technology, powerful magic, artificial intelligence, and incredible sciences, but the level of technology to magic to average information varies from place to place. Take Eno for example, a beautiful beacon of lights and sounds, a symbol for innovation and forward-thinking. Just on the other end of the island sits Veritas, a land of practice and tradition, ancient beliefs, and ways of life that thrive among themselves. Both places exist in such close proximity to each other, its not hard to imagine how different other places in the rest of the world can be.
But just as traditionalists are convinced technology is evil, and that forward-thinkers believe tradition kills the future, therein lies a third group known as the Techolites. This third group is absolutely hellbent on the idea that nature is the key to death and destruction, that flora brings about chaos and despair.
One of their biggest platform points is just how long plants have existed, "They were here long before us, many argue they will still be here when we die. But who, I ask, created them? What proof do you have that they belong to a god? That they have thoughts or feelings or lives at all? I cannot trust something I cannot recreate myself."
Another major point is the lack of 'true diversity' as some call it, conscious species that rule Ultimus include a wide arrange of races, beliefs, ways of life, and technology. They can travel and exist in places that their ancestors did not originate from, but plant species rarely travel, especially on their own accord. Sure there is variety, namely in color or size, but Techolites do not consider this diversity amongst the flora.
I would love to thank my amazingly talented friend for coming up with the initial idea of "Technology isn't evil, the trees are." They go by Liz and you can check out their work here!
