Lynir's Death Mask

The mask was soft against his skin. He could already feel the magic in the mask before it was tied. Lynir could feel his uncle's influnce course through him. As he closed his eyes he became the willing puppet of his lord and master, Qaydith.
A black leather mask with no eye holes and purple details. The magic of the mask will make it stick to the person that puts it on. The mask an only be removed by the person that put it on the wearer. The mask is very hard to remove by oneself.   The mask itself is a legendary item that is believed to be a myth. It is not something that scholars believe is a real thing. There is no evidnce that the mask was very made. It is believed that it was never made in the first place and just a work of fiction.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The mask is inspired by Whispering Mask in Baldur's Gate 3. Because of that the mask works the same as the Whispering Mask. If someone puts the mask on they will hear the whispers of Qaydith as he leads the wearer to do his binding. The lack of eyeholes in the mask is suppose to stop the person from seeing about they are doing. Because if the wearer sees what Qaydith is forcing them to do they might remove the mask.   Design wise the mask is based off of Cloud Strife's Bahamut Garb. If you want to see that custome you can click here. This partly because Lynir is inspired by a more timid idea of Cloud.

History

The history of the mask is mostly in its myths and the significance of those myths. But there are rumors of the mask being used in the real history of Miyla. With all that said let's have a look at a detailed history of the mask.   The earliest mention of the mask in the myth The Death of Lynir. In the myth Qaydith puts the death mask on Lynir after kiling him. Qaydith then brings Lynir back to life, and after Lynir was brought back Qaydith removed the mask. After the myth was penned people tried to make the mask.   Bad people tried to make a mask similiar to Lynir's Death Mask to control people. Normally trying to make people do horrible things that they would not do normally. Some of these masks that were made worked. The wearer would have to be wililng and alive though. Nothing as powerful as Lynir's mask. Most if not all of these masks were found and destoried after the cases they were tied to were closed. That way they could not be used to hurt anyone else.   The only time a possible real mask was used was when Raga Soyla was killed during a mission. The military doctor and friend of Raga, Schaudteif, gave Azrimor Mäpwüsofdt a mask to put on Raga. Schaudteif told Azrimor that the mask would stop Raga from completely dying. According to Raga the mask was not removed until after Schaudteif brought him back to life. But most scholars dismiss that use of a powerful item on a common foot solider.

Significance

The mask was said to been put on Lynir after Qaydith killed him (Lynir) for the first time. As seen in the myth The Death of Lynir. Qaydith put the mask on Lynir and enjoyed his nephew's beauty before bringing Lynir back to life. In other mythes this mask was said to be worn by Lynir when he as on a mission for his lord and master Qaydith. A masked Lynir is said to be working with Qaydith and blind to what is going on around him. It also believed that if Lynir ever takes the mask off himself then massive change is about to happen.   The mask is a symbol of Qaydith's control over his nephew, Lynir. Myths with Lynir alive and wearing the mask have him killing and destroying the enemies of Qaydith. The mask made Lynir a feared killer and a passionate lover. At the end of those myths Qaydith will then remove the mask from Lynir if the job was done well. To give his nephew a reward for good work.   Their is one myth where Lynir removed the mask himself. In the myth Lynir was task with killing Uabeso, the daughter of Raolegi and goddess of the dawn. Uabeso was also beloved to be the wife of Lynir. In the myth Lynir could sense that that he was about to kill Uabeso so he removed his mask to stop himself from killing her. Lynir and Uaneso then brought about a change that brought the Fa Geinn to a new age. But there is only one myth of that happening and most copies of that myth have been destoried or lost to history. The canon ending of that myth is Lynir killing Uabeso.
