Shards
Crystalline stores of magic originating from other planes, these shards can be used as spell focus' and ritual components, normally serving as the source of energy for the ritual. Originally discovered in the forgotten era, more have been discovered as time went on. Strangely giant versions of these shards, called Sealshards, seem to appear when a tear is closed.
In the late Blood age, artificers figured out how to create artificial ones, though were unable to do anything with them as the magic was lacking, this changed when Grunkle's Angels created the first Fire Shard from an inert shard and Zumil's inherent power.
Sources of magic
It was discovered that shards powered up certain magics, though it seemed to be different for each type. This made the various wizards seek out the one that linked to his magic. The entries below are in alphabetical order.Fey shard
A vibrant pink shard, they have shown up in small quantities throughout the Era of Ages, though it wasn't till the Fey age they sharted were truly classified. These shards seem to make illusionary magic more real, making it harder to detect. This seems especially true if the magic is associated with sleep, it is said that sleeping by the Fey Sealshard that covers the tear will give you very vibrant, realistic dreams. Usually found around the Dreadforest and North Rivell, though it's not unheard of to find Basq merchants selling it.Fire
The fiery orange shard of the fire conflux is the newest type of shard, the Sealshard being the first. These shards intensify the fire of the user, seemingly not only their magical but all fire, seemingly drawing from the passion of their heart. These are found around the Burning Forest.Phervia Shards
A deep purple shard, these were the second to be discovered as they were brought through by the Phervians. These shards seem to less bolster the user's magic and make the target's mind more susceptible to it, making it easier to scare, charm, influence, and even attack a mind when using this gem. While common throughout the Phervian empire, by the Chroma age it was believed they no longer existed.Infernal shards
A blood-red shard from the lower planes, this was the first to be discovered back in the forgotten era. Though they had been around for an era, it wasn't till the Old Draconic Empire that their true use was discovered. Infernal shards seem to boost the potency of spells that rely more on verbal components than other spells. Spells like Vicious mockery or healing words seem to gain a higher potential than without the focus. These shards can be bought in the form of a basic focus or as sending stones from most Tiefling magic shops right through the eras.Nether shards
Discovered in the Divine age, these green shards are prized by the necromancers of Frostmourn. These shards when used in their pure form seem to bolster necromantic spells, however, it has been found to be useable, with a little magic alteration, as an undead control node, allowing vastly more undead to be under a single persons command, and it can also fuel Lichdom on its own without the constant need to feed the phylactery souls. Dead bodies that have these shards inserted also seem to awaken as some kind of revenant. These are found throughout Frsotmourn.Storm shard
The most mysterious is the cloudy storm shards, While it was discovered during the Fey age that the other types come from connection to their planes, the Storm shards seem to have just appeared. They bolster lighting spells with the user's rage. These shards show up on the various shores of the Gem Sea.Void stone
Showing up at the start of the Rebel Age in the Mire of lost souls, there is some debate on whether or not these count as shards, however, their ability to not only hold an enchantment but especially as potent focuses has led many scholars to believe they are.Color
