What Antagonistic Forces are Holding Them Back?
Internal Antagonist The antagonistic force holding Veronika back is mainly going to be a representation of Healer. The images of Healer itself is going to be a representation of Veronika's own waning mental health as they fight their PTSD and the real world enemies they face on their travels with the magic they know. These voices and images have always been the Darkness, and Veronika has always seen them since they were a child; ever since they started using magic with Healer. Although they learned many things from Healer, they never learned about the exchange for power. The more Veronika uses their magic, the more the Darkness will feed on them, and the more this will manifest itself in the form of visions, paranoia, mood swings, loss of appetite, and general failing mood. At the same time, using magic causes a euphoric feeling that can temporarily cause the magic user to stop noticing or caring about things they would normally otherwise care about. 
External Antagonist  The Darkness becomes stronger each time Veronika uses their magic. As a result, The Darkness becoming stronger and manifesting as healer in Veronika's mind becomes one with the idea of Healer, and he becomes real again. The Darkness becomes Healer, with the same goals Healer had.
