Downtime 2 part 1

General Summary

This downtime took place right after the attack on Evergreen. The pilots were all shook by the events they had just lived through. Maggie was struggling with her feelings of killing another human being, Pietro was becoming a bit paranoid of what was really going on around them, and Embry was feeling deflated that this mission of supporting a struggling colony had turned into such a bloodbath.     There was some good news amongst the hard and bad. The pilots had been approved for a new license and they found themselves with new mechs.    Maggie was pinged by Castor to come to the print shop and help him with an issue. The printer had slacked off his current project and was currently printing a new mech. He called Maggie because from what he could tell, it was her mech Clanky. The console was was receiving permissions remotely from a user, "3002" for each step of the process and Maggie discovered the signal was originating from her mech. They let the print complete and it was soon discovered that a new Goblin mech was in the cockpit of the new Clanky. When she got in and booted it up, Cynosure downloaded itself onto her new mech. She tested out her new mech and Cynosure on a subaltern working in the field and nothing strange happened.   Pietro had been searching for a new mech frame for a while. Getting Slowpoke destroyed in the last battle really but him in a sour mood, so he wanted a new frame that looked like it could take some hits. He found the IPN-S Vlad frame and instantly took a liking too it. That was a mech that looked like it could take a hit. He put in his request for the license and a day later received some news, his request had encountered and error and the schematics could only be sent to him in pieces and would require manual assembly. As consolation he received a waiver for a lifetime supply of IPN-S Potted Meat Product and a voucher to fill out. Unfortunately it would have to be redeemed at a local IPN-S post, the closest of which was at least a whole system away. He was able to customize the look of his mech though while it was slowly printed and put together.   Embry received a ping from Mega that he had discovered something on his Comp/Com unit. It was a super-compressed file containing the license and schematics for a HORUS Hydra frame. When they investigated the origin of the file, Mega found that it appears to have been on the unit for 1,000 years and the file originated from this Comp/Com unit. The frame printed with no issues and Embry was able to enjoy his new Mech.     The pilots where busy in Evergreen. Each one of them wanted to put in the work to rebuild Evergreen and bolster its people. Maggie worked with Castor to use the power core from one of her mechs to restore stable power to landing bowl and Tower 1. Pietro took some broken down subalterns to the Chau family and received medicinal supplies in return. He was able to smuggle them into the town and distribute them to those in need. Embry, after speaking to Brava, went to the hospital where she spoke with Yesman, who was seriously injured during the attack, losing a leg and sight in his left eye. He expressed his concern that Landmark wouldn't cover insurance and he wouldn't be able to get replacement limbs. He joked about getting a chainsaw leg and a laser eye. Embry took sympathy on him and promised that he would help put in a good work for Yesman and gave Yesman some peanut butter. It was the first time Yesman had had peanut butter and he loved it.   Pietro decided to get focused and worked on his ability to get a hold of something. He wanted to get in with Patience and Edena, so he worked on the down-low establishing relations with the grey towns, especially the Chaus, to establish supply lines and trade resources between them and Evergreen. This helped put some of the weight off of Edena and allowed her some freedom from bickering and stressed shop owners and suppliers. While he was out he ran into little Sean again. Sean blamed Pietro for his father's death during the attack. He was upset that the Lancers didn't kill the people who killed his father. Pietro tried to be comforting, offering the child some solace that they would enact judgement on those who attacked Evergreen. He told Sean that he would be able to grow up strong and be able to defend Evergreen when he was older too. He met Catherine Calloway, the operator of Evergreen's orphanage. She expressed her gratitude towards Pietro and the pilots for doing all that they did for protecting Evergreen. She then took Sean away. Pietro has taken an interest in the orphanage and makes sure it has all the supplies it needs to run properly. While working with one of his contacts he was let in on a rumor, a door that appeared in the Absolute Dead Zone. Apparently at the beginning of the colony's days, some explorers went on an expedition to the ADZ and found a lone, standing door. When they went through, they were transported to another place, as desolate as the ADZ, but with no way of knowing where they were. After a month of wandering the new space, they found another door, and when they went through it, they found themselves right outside of Evergreen, just a day after they had left for the ADZ.   Maggie wanted to tap more into the empathetic link she felt beginning to develop in her mind. She decided to turn to drugs as a way of elevating her mind. She was able to find a crazy old lady living outside of Merricktown who gave her a huge roll of some sort of drug. After running away from the crazy lady, drug roll in hand, she made her way back to Evergreen and the print shop where she locked her self in and smoked a small portion of the drug. She had an out of body experience where she floated up over the city and saw, not people, but colors, moving around the town. Colors of all types, and as she flew higher, she was struck by what looked like an arura borealis. It pulled her over the landscape until she was pulled into the ground and suddenly a face appeared before her. It was a large insect like face, with a mantle of red and gold that resembled a crown. The face looked at her and said, "You are home/secure/safe." But it wasn't as much she heard the voice, as more felt it in her mind and heart. Maggie was then ripped back along the path she had came back to her body. There she saw Castor hovering over her convulsing body. She woke up in the hospital, and Castor promised not to tell anyone what really happened.   Then unexpected visitors arrived. CRT-Contingency White. A crisis response team sent by SSC to assess the status of assets in peril. If the asset was then deemed a loss, they were to be prepared to extract all corporate interests and leave the planet. Embry wanted to establish good relations with the CRT and met with a member named Anne. Embry allowed Anne to meet Mega in exchange for Anne accepting Embry's help. While assisting Anne in the Cryocrypt cataloging data, Embry took a peak at Patience's casket through the local terminal. He found an almost too easy backdoor in and had just enough time to find a line of code that would loop on itself if executed before being interrupted by Anne. She then contacted Pietro to discuss the discovery. They were both disturbed by the idea that that there was such easy access to Patience's code, and worried for Patience and the colony's safety. They discussed the idea of cycling Patience, or the problem of him being essentially turned off through the cycling process. Pietro sent a large request to Patience asking him to review permissions of accessing cameras around Evergreen, approval for Yesman's chainsaw leg and a promotion, and various other things to try and get a blanket approval for the list.
