The Elderwood is the most important shrine to followers of the
Old Religion. The Elderwood refers to a circular patch of land located in the forest outside of
Ilyrium. The Elderwood is the home ofthe Old Gods' Shrine.
Old Religion connection
The Elderwood is a place of worship for followers of the Old Religion. Because of the Old Religion's flexible tenets, no prescribed events take place at the Elderwood. Generally, however, a follower of Old Religion will hold their
Arbitrium and
Quia Nunc Vale in the Elderwood. Many followers of the Old Religion will also just often visit the area and shrine to simply pray, leave an offering, or grab some quiet time. From time to time, followers of other religions will utilize the area for some quiet time as well.
Old Gods' Shrine
In the very center of the Elderwood is the Old Gods' Shrine. Built entirely out of wood, it has been standing since 20 CE (largely thanks to both magic and restorative care). Nothing is inside the shrine except for various natural offerings, such as flowers and the remains of animals who have died a natural death.
The shrine was originally built by humans as a shared place of worship with witches, but after 76 CE, when contact with humans was outlawed, witches took the area over completely.
