    Prehistory of Asteria

During this era, the galaxy came into being. Stars, nebulae, and the auroras first appeared during this time. It would be several millennia before smaller celestial bodies, such as islands or comets, would appear.   The first species also came into being during this time, though records of what exactly occurred during this era are lost to history.

Creation of the first Stellar Ships

The first stellar ships were created at around 15000 PE. They were small vessels, powered manually, and were only capable of short trips within the same star system.   Nonetheless, these were the first stepping stones of galactic travel.

    First Contact

The first recorded contact between two species occurred on this date, in the Crestellon system of the eastern reaches of the galaxy. Loxodon and Dwarves met for the first time, on one of the Crestellon islands.   From this point, first contacts became more and more frequent, as Dwarves and Loxodon alike took to their ships and quickly spread in all directions. It's estimated that by 11000 PE, one-quarter of the galaxy knew of each other's existence.

    Imperial Beginnings

While not the first intersystem government, the Choub Coalition was arguably the first successful implementation. Originally founded by gnomes in the Anteres system to take advantage of favorable galactic terrain, the Choub Coalition quickly spread to system after system, extending their sphere of influence.

    Imperial Growth

The first test of the Choub Coalition's imperial prerogative came when they reached the Gelt system, which at the time was inhabited solely by humans. Though the humans were initially reluctant to share their system, the Choub Coalition eventually managed to secure a treaty in which neither Gelt nor the Choub Coalition would limit islands to one species.   This treaty - the Treaty of Gelt - created a model that the rest of the galaxy would eventually follow.

    Creation of Solar Sails
    Technological achievement

Solar sails were a breakthrough in stellar ship propulsion. They allowed ships effectively free propulsion, so long as the ship was within range of a star.   Solar sails work by reflecting a portion of the star's light behind the ship, which in turn propels the ship forward. The propulsion generated is directly proportional to the distance to the star.

    Imperial Peak

In the peak, the Cheub Empire controlled one-half of the galaxy, concentrated around the galactic center. At this point, all known species in the galaxy were represented in the Cheub Empire , and most islands were populated by multiple species.   The Cheub were never the only empire to exist in the galaxy during this time. Other star systems formed their own independent kingdoms, though were rarely as successful or as long-lasting.

    Imperial Decline

Historians date the decline of the Cheub Empire to ~3000 PE, when the Cheub Empire reached the limits of its logistics and was unable to expand further without overextending themselves.   Naturally, the Cheub Empire overextended itself. When attempting to conquer the Grand Vesth Kingdom, the Cheub Empire was unable to gain any territory, and in fact lost several systems to Vesth counterattacks. These events sparked a steady decline in imperial authority over the ensuing centuries.

    Imperial Collapse

The empire truly fell apart when the eastern part of the Cheub Empire declared independence, setting up a new system of government in the Jenah system.   Though the empire officially existed for another 50 years, its power was shattered and its authority was lost. The Cheub Empire was officially dissolved in 2450 PE, marking the end of the Imperial Era and the beginning of the Remnant Era.

    Remnant Era

The Remnant era was characterized by a drastic decrease in interstellar travel. A few interstellar governments remained, but they were small and usually governed no more than a handful of systems. Many islands became true islands - self sufficient and isolated from the rest of the galaxy.
