The first stellar ships were created at around 15000 PE. They were small vessels, powered manually, and were only capable of short trips within the same star system. Nonetheless, these were the first stepping stones of galactic travel.

Solar sails were a breakthrough in stellar ship propulsion. They allowed ships effectively free propulsion, so long as the ship was within range of a star. Solar sails work by reflecting a portion of the star's light behind the ship, which in turn propels the ship forward. The propulsion generated is directly proportional to the distance to the star.
