Gorlithe
Goddess of Dread and Evil Dragons
One of the three goddesses of dragonkind, Gorlithe is a twisted and malicious being with little regard for others. She embodies what most people envision when they think of evil dragons: cruel, calculating, power-hungry, and avaricious. Many gods respect or even fear her because of her history of betrayal and murder. Along with her titles as the Goddess of Dread and the Goddess of Evil Dragons, Gorlithe unofficially holds the title of Goddess of Matricide. Gorlithe is a massive dragon of unbelievable size whose scales constantly change colors, randomly rotating through black, blue, green, red, and white. Her depictions usually have her in various points of transition between these colors to try and incorporate as many chromatic dragon colors as possible, such as having a red head, black wings, blue legs, a green body, and a white tail.
Gorlithe is one of the three dragon sisters born from the great dragon goddess, Pemgirvei. Gorlithe has always been a jealous and spiteful being, so it is no surprise that she grew resentful of her clutch mate, Yndrasa, and Pemgirvei's bond. Gorlithe saw the bond between her mother and sister as favoritism and grew increasingly bitter as time went on. Eventually, Gorlithe's rage and bitterness came to a head resulting in her murdering her mother in cold blood. What little sisterhood remained between Gorlithe and Yndrasa was shattered and their third sister, Zharsteri, took to the stars and the void between to get away from her embittered and warring siblings.
To this day, Gorlithe and Yndrasa actively work against each other. Gorlithe believes that killing Yndrasa will make her the undisputed ruler of all dragonkind, while Yndrasa is seeking justice for the murder of her mother. For a time, Yndrasa and Gorlithe both attempted to sway Zharsteri to one side or the other however it has become clear that Zharsteri wants nothing to do with the conflict.
Gorlithe's worshippers include evil dragons and those who revere the more brutal and conniving of dragonkind. The dragons that worship her are most commonly chromatic dragons who acknowledge Gorlithe as the mother of their kind. They attempt to embody the rage, greed, and maliciousness that most associate with Gorlithe. The non-dragons who worship Gorlithe do so because they are being forced by a dragon lording over them or because they revere the power that Gorlithe represents. These dragon cultists often seek out a powerful dragon to pledge their services. Many a well-prepared and defended town has been laid low after worshippers of Gorlithe infiltrated the town and weakened the defenses in preparation for their draconic master.
Most of Gorlithe's worshippers do not erect permanent structures to praise or worship the goddess. Instead, they gather in secret conclaves or will construct altars within the lairs of dragons. It is not uncommon for a dragon to pretend to worship Gorlithe to attract her followers and then demand offerings of gold, magic items, and sacrifices. Gorlithe's draconic worshippers do not need churches or places to worship their goddess. Instead, they pay homage through the lands they conquer and the people they subjugate.
