Kaikawha
The Lightning Trickster
A prankster through and through, Kaikawha isn't destructive out of malice but because he finds amusement in riling up other creatures. Other kaiju are Kaikawha's favorite targets for his pranks. Should he sense that another kaiju has awakened, he will often seek them out to play tricks and annoy them. These pranks are not always destructive, but, given the size of Kaikawha and his usual targets, collateral damage usually occurs. Kaikawha's favorite kaiju to prank is Puimohanga, spending most of his time in the skies above the Kanoloa Archipelago. He enjoys trying to sink or destroy any new islands she builds to annoy her. The one kaiju he tends to avoid is Az'ahira due to her immense hatred for flying creatures and her power. Kaikawha's dark side comes out when he feels slighted or wronged. He has a strong sense of pride and is extremely vindictive, but once he feels he has properly gotten back at offenders, he quickly forgets the slight and moves on. Kaikawha rarely touches the ground and can lock his wings to maintain his flight even while hibernating, preferring to sleep while slowly circling the ocean around the Kanoloa Archipelago.
Kaikawha resembles an enormous pterosaur with four wings, two on each side of his chest, with one set directly above the other. Each of these wings has a set of claws at the end of the appendage and two extra phalanges that do not have the wing membrane that are like massive blade-like claws. Kaikawha has a pair of powerful legs, but since he practically never touches the ground, they are rarely used for anything other than grabbing things or self-defense. He also has a long sinuous tail that ends in dozens of massive barbs. With a flick of his tail, Kaikawha can launch the barbs at a target with extreme precision or spray them across a large area. These barbs have a similar composition to metal and, when electrically charged, can create a magnetic pull. Kaikawha's hide and scales are dark, bluish-grey and the membrane of his leathery wings has a variety of blues and purples that blend together. With his ability to control lightning and the weather, he is often accompanied by rain and thunderstorms.
Those who worship Kaikawha are typically tricksters themselves. Others might revere Kaikawha for his ability to control the rain and storms; farmers and sailors will commonly pray to him for this reason. It is common practice for worshippers to tame and even ride pterosaurs. Many who live in the Kanoloa Archipelago view Kaikawha and Puimohanga as a duality that brings balance to the islands: chaos and order, destruction and creation. The followers of these two kaiju will often form rivalries that typically remain peaceful.
Kaikawha's temples are usually simple structures where worshippers can easily observe the weather. Mountaintop altars or churches along seaside cliffs are the norms. Many of Kaikawha's temples have aviaries for raising and breeding pterosaurs.
