Yusoka

Goddess of Dreams and Divination

Yusoka is one of the new deities introduced into the world of Urlyra in the wake of Cthulhu's emergence. She came into being when Omorusa, the previous goddess of dreams and divination, started her decent into madness at the coming of the Dreamer in the Deep. The Elder God's whispers permeated Omorusa's mind and began to corrupt her realm, the Dreamlands. In an attempt to save her mind she fell into a deep slumber and attempted to rend the corrupted parts of the Dreamlands away from what was left of her realm. However, in attempting to do so she tore her own mind asunder and created two new deities. Yusoka was created from the part of Omorusa who still maintained her hold on sanity and kept her power of dreams and divinations. Her "sister", Akusa, was created from all the corrupted parts of Omorusa's mind.   Yusoka and her sister Akusa both still mentally inhabit the physical body of Omorusa. Fortunately, Omorusa's body has not awakened from the slumber she initially went into to try and separate the corrupted parts of her mind. This means that Yusoka and Akusa both operate purely from their respective domains in the Dreamlands and Nightmare Realm. No one has attempted to wake Omorusa's body and no one is entirely sure what would happen should her body awaken.   Yusoka is a kind-hearted and caring goddess who seeks to bestow knowledge and guide her followers through dreams and other forms of divinations. She believes that no matter how harsh the world might be, sleep should always be a place of peace and reverie where one can seek solace from the troubles of the world. Not wanting those who visit their dreams to only do so as a means of escape and not return empty-handed, she tries to impart some form of knowledge that could be used to benefit her worshippers upon waking. Yusoka does not wish to turn away those who seek solace in her realm of dreams but also wishes to instill in her followers the strength to face the waking world.   Worshippers of Yusoka are often fortune-tellers, diviners, and soothsayers. Those who are down on their luck or feel like the circumstances of the world have been stacked against them will also turn to Yusoka. Her clergy often aid others who have problems sleeping or lack the ability to receive proper rest. They are also sought out for their powers of foresight and prophecy. Most of Yusoka's worshippers are capable therapists and aid those recovering from traumatic experiences. Many of her clergy are capable alchemists and pharmacists to better assist the people who often turn to them for support, providing soothing medications and sedatives to aid in recover or promote proper rest.   Churches to Yusoka are often buildings with extremely calming and peaceful atmospheres. They contain aesthetically pleasing libraries and reading nooks, peaceful stroll gardens, and serene bathing pools. Most places of worship also contain chambers covered in pillows to relax in or private sleeping chambers where both visitors and clergy can go to quietly escape the noise and chaos of every day life.
