Kanflu
Capital city, biggest city on the continent, rich and powerful
Government
Governor, appointed by Emperor
Defences
Each of the three sections is walled, with one side open to the river. A large stone fortress dominates the north side of the Old Town.
Infrastructure
A single stone bridge crosses the Great Mother between the Old Town and Tree neighborhoods.
The Great Father is a larger river and difficult to bridge. Even if feasible, a bridge would impede navigation so it has been forbidden. Instead, a host of water taxis ferry passengers from the New Town to the Old Town and Tree neighborhoods.
History
Kanflu started as a small settlement north of the great mother and east of the great father. The settlement quickly grew rich off trade and became an economic and political center.
Across the great mother, The Tree has always been a sacred place. The shrine there was a pilgrimage location for many. A small community grew up around the shrine, consisting of priests, farmers, and a few artisans. After the completion of the bridge connecting it to Kanflu, the population of the area quickly started to grow. Eventually a wall was added, after which the Tree became considered part of Kanflu proper.
The final section of the town came later. The merchants and traders were getting cramped in the old town so they started setting up warehouses and docks on the west side of the great father. This commercial zone eventually grew into the New Town.
Geography
Located at the merging point of the two greatest rivers in Ursa, great location for trade, easy access to the agricultural hinterland, good trade.
