Lt. JG Tyrell Racine

Tyrell Racine is a tactical weapons officer serving on the USS Nightingale.

Psychological Profile

Racine has seen a lot of combat and seems relatively unfazed by it. He doesn't show any indications of psychopathic or antisocial behaviors, instead he seems to just have a very pragmatic outlook on life having lived for decades in a "kill or be killed" environment. In his younger years this would likely have led to reckless and aggressive behaviors but having settled down with a family has caused Racine to show tremendous tact and caution when necessary. He is well accustomed to violent situations and can be relied upon to keep a cool head even during life-or-death situations. Instead he seems to struggle with ordinary tasks which tends to be the majority of the career in Starfleet. For every minute of high-intensity combat there are hours or days or weeks of ordinary routine operations and he has struggled to find ways to occupy himself when he isn't under fire.
ADDENDUM: Although he is Bajoran he was raised entirely surrounded by Earth/Human culture and while his adopted parents made several attempts to expose him to Bajoran culture he has shown no interest in knowing more about his species culture or history.

Biographical Overview

Racine never knew his biological parents. They were killed during the Cardassian occupation in one of the labor camps although they were able to smuggle their baby offworld on a transport freighter sympathetic to the Bajoran cause. He was adopted by Cmdr. Santiago Racine and raised back on Earth. His adopted parents made a few attempts to locate surviving relatives but the merchant hadn't even gotten a name from Racine's parents before he had been forced to flee before the Cardassians discovered them. After a year with little success Cmdr. Racine adopted the baby and raised him as his own. All of Racine's adopted family were part of Starfleet in some way and his two step-siblings were both on track to attend Starfleet Academy. Racine rejected this path, neglecting his school work and showing little interest in preparing for the examinations necessary to attend Starfleet Academy. There are a few juvenile delinquency marks during Racine's teenage years, mainly getting into physical altercations with his peers.
In 2346 Racine ran away from home and at 16 years old he stowed away on an outbound ship. The next decade has no records of Racine's activities and all Racine will say about this time is that he was learning his craft, one hard lesson at a time. The next confirmed report of Racine's activities comes in 2357 when he was working as ship's security on a merchant ship that was attacked by Ferengi Alliance marauders.
For the next twenty years he worked as a mercenary and saw combat all across the Quadrant. He did some work for Bajoran resistance movements, for Klingons on both sides of the Klingon Civil War, and in countless local conflicts. (See Appendix A for full details).
In 2372 he was hired by the Federation as a combat training specialist to help get the Federation mobilized for war and ended up teaching at Starfleet Academy as a combat instructor. It was there that he met his eventual wife who worked at Starfleet Headquarters in the administrations department. She was able to convince Racine to leave the mercenary life behind and enroll in Starfleet Academy. While his academic career was nonexistent, he was given special exception due to his extensive experience in the field and allowed to take the exams, which he passed. Relying heavily on his real world experience over academic book learning he graduated towards the top of his class in 2377 where he was then assigned to USS Nightingale.
ADDENDUM: In 2377 Racine was killed by ███ ███████ █████████ █████. Investigations showed that the ████████ █████████ ██ █████ ██ ███ █████████ ██ ███████ ███ ██ █████ █████ ██████████. █████████ ███████ ██████ ████ ██████ ███████ █████ ██ █████ ███████████ ███ ███ ████████ ██ █████ █████ ██ ███ █████ █████████ ██ ███████████ ██ ████ ██ ███ ████ ██ ███████ ████ █████████ ████ █████ █████████. Racine responded by leaping across the room and ██████████ ███ ███████████ █████ ██ ████████ ██ ████ ████ ██ ███████ ███ ███████████ ██ ███ ███████████. In the process Racine was fatally stabbed. He is honored posthumously with the ██████████ ████ ██ ███████ for his commitment to Starfleet and his courage in the face of danger.
