Although the original scholarly conception of Genasi was limited to the ideal of "geniekin" (which in fact turned out to be a comedic prank played on an academic by one of Uthilith's first known Genasi), they in fact are instead humanoids born near a ley line or portal of concentrated Elemental energy. On rare occasion, they possess heritage of an extraplanar being (such as a Djinn or Marid), but their existence is typically contingent on exposure to planar energy.
