Barborioc (bar-boar-ee-awk)
Just north of Mountaine in what is allegedly Caradas is a wild country of hot badlands and ungovernable savannahs. Many attempt to settle but nature and fate rebuff them every time.
Name origin
Comes from "barbaric" for its intensity and unforgiving environment.Geography
Badlands
Below the foothills of lofty Mountaine stretch the rugged badlands. They extend as a dry expanse, cracked and lifeless. No trees grow on the surface and leafless shrubs root in the shaded gullies. What snow blows off the towering mountains above dissipates before reaching the ground. Far out from the hills, grass grows in dry splotches.Savannah
The savannahs grow from the dry grass now carpeting the dirt. The savannah extends wide with sparse dry-leaved trees and shrubs. Some arroyos filter their rainwater to the few watercourses.Rivers
A few rivers course through but their hospitality does not venture far from the sunken, placid waters. Rain-fed watercourses terminate into these few rivers.Ecosystem
Like most of Caradas, the heat is the land's most prominent feature, followed by the dry, creaky grass and stiff, anviltop trees.
While there is a short rainy season from Erewinter to Erevernal, rain is not always forthcoming.
The long dry season evaporates what little ground moisture there is so by Aftvernal the ground becomes parched again. Grazing animals are accustomed to this dryness, eating the hay-like grass and shrubs.
Climate
Dry and hot during dry seasons and wet and mild during wet seasons.
Fauna & Flora
Many grazers such as impalas, zebras, and dik-dik. Predators like cheetahs and some prides of lions gather in small enclaves of no more than 10. Large shaggy elephants in the savanna and elecores in the badlands also congregate amongst themselves, veritable rulers of their domains.
