Rite of the Seal

Gobtober 2021: Prompt 2
The low-lying, river-induced region known as Weirland has a strange tradition for its leader. These leaders, typically kings, since the second era have held the throne in Weischham , the capital. But no king has ever been officially recognized unless they held in their possession the Rite of the Seal.   This small item is a rock that fits in the hand. It is vaguely spherical with smooth protrusions. It's more than just a stone, though. It actually houses magical spells of warding and safety and survival. It has significant cultural importance as well. The stone was held by the first king, Laarhander , during his last battle to unify the country. The stone was blessed by Cyrrollalee to grant safety and luck. And Luck indeed, for Laarhander smote the final enemy with the stone and used it as his badge of office, carrying it always.   The stone has rules such that it must be on the king or queen at all times, and can never be removed. Many have put the stone into a heavy necklace, some just keep it in their pockets. At each ceremony for a new leader, the stone is held during the entire ceremony. Laarhander's sentiments are recited during each ceremony: "Long I fight, long I toil / To keep the kingdom and people whole // My fingers or thong or string will always coil / 'round the heavy stone with its mighty toll."
