Baron Vatch Klotzy

Baron Vatch Klotzy is a young noble tasked with the governance of Scabberdale and the surrounding hamlets & homesteads. With the aid of his right-hand-man, Watch-Captain Hearthorne, the somewhat neurotic baron is able to maintain a sense of order and ensure the crown's tithe is paid, if at great expense to his emotional wellbeing.
His father, Zachariah Klotzy, was widely regarded as a good man and fair leader. His opponents criticized the old baron's liberal use of Adventuring Guild contracts to keep the Goblinwood safe, in lieu of raising a dedicated guard force. He reasoned that peasants have no responsibility to fight monsters; they should focus on working the land and feeding their families. Some suspect he was skimming a bit off of the top of each contract, but the Guild kept the villages safe without endangering a single peasant by sending them off to fight a troll. Despite the large shoes his father left him to fill, the young baron does his best to instill confidence in his rule, and tries to remain calm under immense pressure.
The Orcish raid on the village seems to have broken the veneer, however, and Watch-Captain Ulric Hearthorne has once again risen to the challenge of restoring confidence in the system. Left to his own devices between the Watch-Captain's reports, the baron has taken to locking himself within his dilapidated keep east of the village. Rumors suggest that the young baron will collapse under the severe weight of responsibility if nothing changes...
