Gnolean Vext
(a.k.a. Roland Angelon, the Greater)
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Vext is steeped in magical enchantments and eldritch power. While he may not look like much, the necromancer was able to physically overpower and throw the aspect of the Phoenix into a stone pillar, cracking the structure heavily. He can take a staggering amount of punishment without showing signs of wear, and it can be assumed that his longevity is a result of untold magical tampering with his own physical body.
Body Features
Vext has fiery silver eyes and gleaming silver hair. He has a gaunt complexion, typical of necromancers, as most of his sinister work is presumably done in the secrecy of the dark. He stands taller than average, and his build is disguised by layers of green dragonscale and mottled cloak.
Physical quirks
Gnolean seems to have an involuntary twitch in his left eye, especially when Keerla Roween is speaking.
Special abilities
Vext commands a wide array of spells and curses, and has spent centuries strengthening his body and soul through the use of foul magics.
Mental characteristics
Employment
Vext appears to be a member of the Wyrm Cult in high standing.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Gnolean was revealed to be charged with sowing the seeds of upheaval in the Goblinwood. According to Siegurt's Ledger, the errant wizard reported directly to Vext himself, suggesting that the silver eyed necromancer was directly responsible for Bristlebeard and the Orcish attack on Scabberdale. At The Garden Of Stones, Gnolean succeeded in opening a rift into the Aether using the power of the stone circle, though judging by his visible disappointment, it appears that whatever he was looking for was not where he expected it to be. Nonetheless, Vext used the power of a corrupted Sulphire to summon an Infernal Horror to cover his escape, which was only barely slain by the upstart heroes.
Failures & Embarrassments
Gnolean Vext is a man of plans and contingencies. Even when apparently thwarted, the necromancer manages to advance his ambitions through guile and subterfuge. The Garden Of Stones marked his first real defeat, albeit not necessarily at the hands of the heroics of the party. Whatever he was looking for beyond the portal into The Aether, he did not find it there.
Mental Trauma
Vext revealed some elements of his past while negotiating with Keerla Roween over the Sulphire she possessed. Evidently, he hails from noble origins, though it seems his royal streak ran dry centuries ago. Deposed by the Covenant of Seers at least a century ago, Gnolean was reduced to working with the likes of necromancers and Orcish chieftains, among others. Whatever happened to him all of those centuries ago, it cannot have been pleasant.
Intellectual Characteristics
Gnolean seems to possess an aptitude for scheming and treachery. While clearly intelligent in matters of strategy, the necromancer's intellect appears to be counteracted by no small amount of hubris. Vext is a truly powerful individual, and rarely encounters entities that can stand up to his arcane might. When a rag-tag group of miscreant vagabonds managed to thwart his carefully constructed schemes, it came as a complete shock.
Morality & Philosophy
Vext cares for one thing and one thing only: power, His motivations are unknown to all but his closest allies, but it is certain that anyone who stands in his way is in profound and immediate danger of utter destruction.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Power, and the accrual thereof.
Virtues & Personality perks
Utter devotion to his own self-serving causes.
Vices & Personality flaws
Supreme confidence in his own abilities, to the point of fatal hubris.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Aside from his afiliates within The Wyrm Cult, Vext has been shown to work closely with Orcish chieftains as well as tribal Aarakocra leaders. Through these contacts, he has been largely succesful in undermining peaceful power structures within the Rhynn Valley.
Social Aptitude
While fragments of social aptitude earned from his life as part of court nobility likely remain, his ego and frightening command of magic have rendered niceties both unpleasant and obselete.
Wealth & Financial state
Vext appears to be connected to a network of spies, politicians, and others through service to The Wyrm Cult. According to Siegurt's Ledger, transactions to the tune of 100,000 gold pieces appear to be routine exchanges.
