Odeon Hammersmith
Odeon Hammersmith (a.k.a. Faeldin's Fire)
Odeon Hammersmith, proprietor of The Glamor Hammer, grew up in the Rhynn Valley far from the bustle of the city. As a child, he would eagerly await the few occassions that a trade wagon passed through town so he could admire the work of the urban smiths. He was raised by his mother, Faeldin, who worked as a farrier and taught him the basics of metallurgy in the hopes that he would find his fortune as a "proper" blacksmith's apprentice. She sent him off with what few coppers they had in search of a suitable mentor shortly after his father left the picture.
After years of vagrancy and struggle, Odeon met a dwarf by the name of Grunbad Kazarak while begging on the streets of Baskhaven. The proud dwarf "pitied the wee whelp" and took him under his stocky wing. Grunbad was, after all, coincidentally heading to Odeon's hometown of Scabberdale. Together, the duo travelled south along the Winding Way, while Odeon was taught just enough literacy to take measurements and write out orders for raw materials. Each night, they'd set up camp, and the eager apprentice would build a rudimentary forge to put into practice the wisdom he'd soaked up during the day's travel. After several many evenings of failed attempts, Odeon finally woke Kazarak with pride in the middle of the night-- he had forged his first, albeit wickedly ugly, dagger. The blade curved strangely, and the pommel was lumpy, yet it was razor sharp and fit comfortably in the hand. That night, the dwarf stopped seeing Odeon with pity, and began seeing within him potential.
By the time they reached Scabberdale, they had travelled together for nearly 2 months. Grunbad revealed his plan to build a brand new forge within the village, and Odeon pledged to serve under the dwarf's tutelage. He walked tall, much taller than he ever had before, toward his childhood home to share the news with Faeldin Hammersmith. Their dreams had finally come true, and he'd build a forge in town with his own two hands, no less! He spent hours searching the overgrown fields surrounding the small, dilapidated hovel before a solemn-face neighbor shared the news.
She had passed a few seasons back; they had tried to write, but didn't know where to send the letter.
Since that day, Odeon has lived his days with single purpose. With each stroke of his hammer, an oath renewed. He would do his mother proud, forging armor to protect the mightiest heroes and blades to fell the most monsterous of creatures. Even the most mundane tool to leave the forge will reap grain with unparallelled ease, and till fields for years before showing signs of wear. Scabberdale has never been known for legendary arms and armor, but one day it will be, if Odeon has his way.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Rough-hewn, covered in scars and blemishes from a lifetime of forge work. He is missing his left arm, beginning at the middle of his forearm. Grunbad fashioned him a surprisingly intricate prosthetic that allows him to not only continue his work, but do so without any fear of damaging his left limb going forward.
Body Features
Broad as a tree, just about as tough. Walks with a slight hunch earned from thousands of hours spent huddled over, beating raw metal into submission.
Facial Features
What appear to be freckles are, upon closer inspection, miniscule burns caused by sparks from the anvil. His eyebrows are nearly nonexistent due to constant singeing.
Identifying Characteristics
Most folk can pick Odeon out of a crowd by searching for the dwarven relic attached to his left arm.
Physical quirks
Odeon posesses a comically deep voice garnished with a brutish cockney accent.
Special abilities
Odeon is a talented blacksmith, for a human anyways. What he lacks in racial proclivity and formal training, he makes up for in kind with enthusiasm and dedication.
Apparel & Accessories
Mostly seen wearing his blacksmithing garb-- overalls, boots, and a sizeable apron. In the winter months, the same outfit is complemented with a heavy cloak when walking to and from work, though he has no such need while working the red-hot forge.
Specialized Equipment
His left hand is a marvel of engineering. According to Grunbad, the design is a result of gnomish ingenuity and dwarven stubbornness. He came back to town a few weeks after the initial accident, having visited a pair of gnomes in Briarwood to perfect the design. After the plans were drawn up, Grunbad went to work crafting the appendage from his highest quality Adamantine.
