The Broken Pantheon

The Second Age Pantheon came into being at the end of the First Age, when the Primordial Twins, J'numbra the Replete and Ma'ool the Empty were "broken" into The Four by The Great Dragon. Some include The Dragon in the Broken Pantheon while others, especially the mysterious Wyrm Cult, hold the sacred beast as an entity separate altogether from the First and Second Age gods.

The gods of the Broken Pantheon are as follows:

Agraxi, the Seed of Life, Divine of Natural Chaos
  • God of new life, fertility, and patron of the hunt and harvest.
  • Also associated with the struggle for survival, fear of the unknown, and animalistic instinct.

Agroru, the Ancient Promise, Divine of Natural Order
  • God of courage, wisdom, contentment and medicine.
  • Also associated with death, decay, apathy, and noble surrender.

Anaxi, the Undying Spirit, Divine of Unnatural Chaos
  • God of free will, sapience, self-expression, and the arts.
  • Also associated with destruction, rebellion, and unrest.

Anoru, the Corporeal Chain, Divine of Unnatural Order
  • God of artifice, structure, law, self-control, and triumph.
  • Also associated with repression, domination, and exploitation.

Commonly included in discussions regarding the Second Age Pantheon is an entity known by many names, most often referred to as simply The Dragon. To most folk, the folk beast represents cataclysm incarnate. Others hold that The Dragon represents change, and attribute to it the creation of the world as it exists today.

Mythology & Lore

In the beginning, the Primordial Twins fought for dominance in the cosmic firmament. Representing the concepts of existence and being, J'numbra raged against Ma'ool, the personification of entropy and the void. By the will of J'numbra, the universe was filled with stars without end, bursting with the promise of new creation. By the will of Ma'ool, the distance between them became infinitely empty, forever isolating them in the inky black nothingness of the void. The battle raged for eons until, without warning, the sacred beast Dielynor roared from the aether and tore each of the Primordial Twins in half, feasting on their divine essence as reality recovered from the wound.

For millenia, dragons ruled the mortal realms as avatars of Dielynor's power, each wielding fearsome magic empowered by their draconic patron. As the dragons grew complacent in their supremacy, the lesser races of men, elves, and their cousins slowly crawled from the caves and grew in strength and number. From the aether, the children of the Primordial Twins began to become involved in the affairs of mortals, occasionally squabbling over the devotion of their followers. Through mortal worship and sacrifice, The Four slowly grew in power and influence, far from the prying eyes of The Dragon's servants. In the aether beyond, they conspired to empower a group of mortal champions with relics acting as conduits to channel the aether. While The Dragon could not be destroyed, The Four reckoned that it could be sealed away from the mortal realm that they had grown attached to. These champions, the Heroes of Old, eventually overpowered The Dragon on the mortal plane, casting Dielynor into the aether by way of their divine relics. Using their combined power, The Four weaved their essence together, forming a mystical barrier between the various planes of existence and trapping Dielynor in the aether, far beyond the reach of mortals.

While common dragons still populated the continents of the world, they wielded but a fraction of their original power. Hunted by various heroes and monarchs throughout history, they no longer constitute an existential threat as they did in the Second Age. Shortly after the time of the Heroes of Old, the Covenant of Seers was formed to ensure that the world remains safe from extraplanar threats such as The Dragon.
