Apocalypse Falls
Around eighteen miles inland from the southern coast of Atrain, where the jungle meets the sea, lies the deep basin at the feet of Apocalypse Falls, which plunge nearly 3200 ft. over seven ridges of rocky plateaus from one of Atrain's highest points down to sea level in just one and a half miles.
Localized Phenomena
In the aftermath of the Battle of Apocalypse Falls, the land surrounding the falls and the water itself is rife with localized bursts of Wild Magic that confuse the senses and can even alter the physical form of any being foolhardy enough to venture through the area. Wildlife largely avoids the dangerous area, flora and fauna alike have been mutated simply by straying too close, and the very soil is riven with diseases that can cause anything from a mild irritation to a quick and painful death.
History
A coalition of the armies of two dozen species met a monstrous army led by a coven of hags that had unleashed Coven's Rage upon Valine in what became known as The Year of the Hag (593). The Battle of Apocalypse Falls is the most notable event in the history of Atrain and, indeed, one of the more notable events in Valinian history. The coven and their troops were defeated and the threat eradicated, but at the expense of rendering much of the surrounding area a deadly menace of disease, mutation and Wild Magic.
