Melsnifell

Industry & Trade

The reason for the hamlet, and its sole industry, was mining the rich veins of copper lying beneath the mountain upon which it was built.

Infrastructure

The town's infrastructure has crumbled since the inhabitants were taken over by Mozzur. The only building still maintained in any way is the guild house, a small two story structure with an attached courtyard, where the Lord of Insects has made his residence. Around two miles to the south is a small graveyard where the miners used to bury their dead, now also falling into disrepair. Both the graveyard and the guild house contain entrances down into the copper mine.

Guilds and Factions

The town belonged to the Ironwing Mining Corporation, who still hold the deed.

History

Formerly a copper mining community in the Empyrean Spires, the population of Melsnifell was possessed by the imprisoned spirit of a demon named Mozzor when the planar prison Mozzor was captured in was uncovered by the miners. Thanks to an enchanted family heirloom, the foreman of the mines, Boznur, was able to retain his mind long enough for a group from the Ironwing Mining Corporation to arrive in the area to investigate reported disappearances. The group was able to execute Boznur's plan to reseal the demon by caving in the chamber in which his prison had originally been sealed. However, Boznur had not been the only survivor. One of the other miners remained above ground and, unknown even to Mozzor, used his link to the demon realm to make a play for more power. However, he instead found his body taken over by a Demon Lord, the Lord of Insects, who forced the Ironwing Mining Corporation group to flee from the town. The Lord of Insects is now, as far as anyone knows, the only being inhabiting the little hamlet, which is slowly falling into disrepair.

Geography

Built low on a mountain in the Empyrean Spires, about a days journey from Astigill and about three days from Azrir, the hamlet is accessible only by a narrow miner's cart path leading up into the mountain from the main trade road between the two cities. The hamlet itself is hidden in a hollow in the mountain, only coming into view as the cart path comes over the final rise before the hollow.

Natural Resources

The copper veins beneath Melsnifell are the largest yet discovered in the Empyrean Spires.
