Monkey Business
Mofir, 18th of Destus
General Summary
Chaos reigned!
With some of the festival troupe's show beasts released from their cages in the The Mason and Wind stables, the traveling troupe looked to the party to help them wrangle the creatures. As the baby Triceratops charged out of the stable into the street, drawing Vulpiano Maletta and Editta Dondero with it, the rest of the group were left to deal with the roper, the peryton, and the Earth elemental.
Ash, enraged by the roper hurting his brother, beat on it until it released Howl and the others, allowing them to push it back into its cage. In the meantime Throom fired some rather ineffective shots, doing little more than distracting the elemental while Aelar did his best to stop it from destroying the tavern. The elemental burst through the stable wall into the tavern proper, downing Aelar in the process. While off-duty guards and other troupe members attempted to assist, the strongman Ganmaarr managed to grapple the peryton while Howl helped him wrangle it back into its cage.
Meanwhile, in the street, Vulpiano Maletta managed to put the Triceratops to sleep, leaving Editta to tend to it. Vulpiano ran back into the stable and revived Aelar.
Stripling Feous took it upon himself to chase down the mischievous monkey. He wounded it in the leg before it could escape, but it managed to get out of the stable and flee across the rooftops with Strip in pursuit. Although he lost sight of it, he was able to scramble onto the roof and pulled off a good shot to wound the monkey again. Leaping across the street to face it, he was able to pull the monkey off the roof, plummeting to the street below and landing on the primate, knocking it out and securing it.
Inside, the earth elemental continued to cause havoc, bursting through another wall into the adjoining blacksmith's store and then into the street beyond, where it crushed an unsuspecting city guard, taken by surprise when the creature burst through a building wall and trampled him to death. Remarkably, however, the guard was the only victim, as the elemental was promptly brought down by repeated blows.
Very grateful for keeping the damage to his store to a minimum (not to mention saving his life), the blacksmith agreed to provide Howl with the weapons he sought for the conflict with the rival chimp tribe. Satisfied, Howl and Ash took their weapons, left an order for more and headed back for their tribe, somewhat bemused at the odd behavior of city dwellers.
The rest of the party regrouped to plan their next move in the investigation. Throom excused himself to deal with some other matters around town, saying he may rejoin them later on.
