The Tasked

Each day, The Tasked interact with humanoid races in order to facilitate harmonious coexistence, and t hey can feel just as at ease in the center of a forest as they do in the heart of a humanoid metropolis.   They like to engage on their own terms, however. While even their wilderness residences may look to be luxurious palaces, they are frequently disguised as natural ecosystems to avoid detection. Before resorting to violence, some of The Tasked seek to scare away outsiders.   The Tasked are either tied to a certain place or are forced to take lengthy sabbaticals between assignments. The first group consists of genies  who are responsible for supplying food, art, and constructions to humanoids. The second group can gradually lose their minds until they are assigned new tasks or are shackled and ordered to fulfill a specific task by an incredibly strong Wizard.   Non-genies may hire The Tasked only if they have pre-paid for them. Despite the fact that some of these genies  work for free, the work they produce is typically of worse quality. Due to the fact that they pose an unacceptable threat to the planet, select of The Tasked with military expertise are kept on a perpetual retainer.   Only a select few individuals are capable of binding The Tasked correctly. Occasionally, genies  entrusted to a mission solicit the assistance of their relatives to expedite the task's completion. Due to the fact that these other genies  are assisting The Tasked out of pure altruism, the employer incurs no costs.   A strong Wizard or an even more powerful genie  may be able to restore one of The Tasked to its original genie  form, albeit this is an extremely unusual occurrence. To begin, The Tasked must be freed from its employment or confinement, as well as from its tools of the trade, in order to begin the lengthy process of accomplishing the assignment. This is much easier said than done when dealing with more aggressive, military-minded of The Tasked. To keep The Tasked safe and secure, it is necessary to design a habitat totally composed of The Tasked native element.   Consider the case of a winemaking genie  who has been kept submerged since they were previously a Marid . Until the metamorphosis is complete, the Wizard or other genie  must perform a daily dispel magic spell on The Tasked. Due to the innate magical resistance of certain of The Tasked, the efficacy of this spell casting is lessened. The Tasked's total separation from its "job" presents a considerable hurdle at this stage of the process. As previously said, if this occurs, The Tasked may suffer a mental breakdown and may even die. Wizard who successfully aid in the restoration of The Tasked to his or her original form are regarded as great heroes, and the genie  community often celebrates such deeds with undying gratitude and the devotion of the once-tasked genie  in exchange.   They may expect lasting twice as long as the average individual. While it is very rare for The Tasked to attract humanoid lovers, the results are virtually always disastrous. While the children of these unions may possess a few minor genie-like skills, they otherwise resemble their humanoid parents; yet, by their mid-teens, these progeny are typically insane.
