Marid
Genies formed by the melding of a rejected soul with a Water Elemental. They stand a massive sixteen to eighteen feet tall and their shimmering skin matches all the colors of the oceans, indicating their current mood (the darkest blue indicates anger). Most marids have gray or white hair with a blue tinge.
They have immense physical strength. Marids have been known to stop a ship as long as 30 meters in length that was travelling at speed. They have several innate magical abilities and water based attacks, magical or otherwise, are utterly ineffective against them.
Marids enjoy hunting within the oceans and collecting wealth, in all its forms (including enslaving other species). They are considered extremely dangerous to bind or imprison, as happens more commonly with other genies, as they are quick to seek revenge over such a slight against their natural superiority. They tolerate Djinn and Jann but despise Dao and Efreet - working with them only if necessary to defend themselves in wartime.
While most at home in water, they can breathe easily on land.

Major language groups and dialects
Marids speak Aquan with an accent reminiscent of waves crashing against a rocky shore.
Culture and cultural heritage
Every marid claims to be a "noble" which creates an impenetrably confusing hierarchy of titles and honorifics which even marids themselves have a hard time keeping track of (indeed many marids claim titles that they have simply made up). Truly noble marids, however, are legendarily powerful and instantly recognizable to even other species as being a cut above others of their kind.
Marids are fabulous storytellers, adept at embellishing any tale to make it more wondrous and magnificent. They also commonly stray off-topic during conversation with a tale of their own, however interrupting a marid to refocus the conversation is viewed as an almost criminal act and offending a marid is to incur their terrible wrath - often a fatal mistake.
Shared customary codes and values
Hugely arrogant and prideful, marids believe themselves to be the pinnacle of their species and, perhaps, the greatest of beings beneath the gods. They see other beings as beneath their notice, in general, but have a particular hatred of giant who they view as a pest to be exterminated.
Common Etiquette rules
Bribery and flattery is expected when dealing with a marid. Within their own hierarchy a "lesser noble" (what a truly noble marid might refer to as a "common marid") would be equally expected to utilize bribery and extoll the virtues of a superior marid when dealing with them. Indeed, an audience with a marid may only be granted after an extended flattery of their great achievements and more impressive traits.
Common Dress code
When in the water, marids generally wear little or no clothing. On land they prefer light cloths in flowing fashions or even clothes made from finely woven seaweed inlaid with pearls, coral and fish scale. All genders of marid like to show off their physiques, and generally limit their upper body clothing to flimsy vests.
