Houses of Healing

Located in Valliné's Temple District, the structures known simply as the Houses of Healing, are a semi-independent extension of the Temple of Lathander, providing medical care to the citizens of Valliné.
Although not the only medical establishment in the city, the Houses are certainly the largest, opening their doors to citizens from all walks of life, regardless of circumstance. Medical care is provided for free to all who seek it.
Seeing the Houses as an undeniably positive force for good in the city, The Royal Family and by extension the government of Vallanna, make a sizeable annual contribution to the running costs of the Houses, although they are not seen as government-run institution.

History

The Houses began life as part of the Temple of Lathander itself, during the early years of the city of Valliné, as concerned and open-hearted priests of Lathander took in the sick and tended to them as best they could. As the city and its population grew, so did the demand for medical services, and a series of buildings were constructed around the original temple to service this need.
Over the centuries, the Houses of Healing have become a large complex, dedicated to the health of the populace. While still remaining attached to the Temple of Lathander, they have become a semi-independent institution of their own, with a large, dedicated staff of healers working alongside those priests of Lathander who wish to dedicate their time to the arts of healing in service of their god.
