Abandon Yuan-Ti Fort

Long abandoned fort designed and built by Yuan-Ti in the height of a seemingly gone kingdom. Having been empty for 900 years, nature has worked to reclaim some of the structure, but just barely. A dark aura hangs over the fort itself due to malign influence. It lies within a three hour journey from Arsedale, but does not interfere with the growth and prosperity of the the settlement. A few individuals have tried to explore the location yet have not been able to reach deep into without being consumed by the aura or falling to the skeletal guardians within. The location itself is extremely defensive and if it could be restored to full functionality, it would be able to withstand extreme punishment for an extended period.

Purpose / Function

Original purpose of the building was to guard edge of kingdom and perform ritual sacrifices of slaves and captives to please their gods. For several centuries, the Yuan-Ti worked hard to protect their portion of the boundary against all manner of intruders including even the Bleak. It has since become a location filled with trapped & bound Undead.

Design

The only remaining rooms within the fort itself are the War Room, Altar, & Sacrifice Pit. Any of the other rooms that may have been built at one point have long been ruined and rotted away

Sensory & Appearance

The aura permeating the area actually dulls the light and cools that air around/within the fort itself. No lighting is present in the fort from a mundane or magical source. The smell of rotting flesh hangs in the air due to all the skeletons being present with skin tattering's.

Denizens

The only entities to have been noticed are skeletons that infest the location.

Contents & Furnishings

Broken furniture and various pieces of ages equipment are littered throughout the fort.

Valuables

Build up of salvageable goods and materials from traders that strayed too close and explorers who fell victim to the allure. Small amount of magical items can be found within the walls amongst the detritus and in the possession of some skeletons. The overall value of all items within the fort is unknown as no one has been able to explore within and return.

No traps are present in the area. The deadly aura is the largest hazard

Alterations

Inclusion of an Altar and Sacrifice pit later after construction for the dark rituals and rites that were being performed by the Yuan-Ti Kingdom that controlled it. Hundreds were sacrificed during this time to fuel the dark rituals that were performed in the fort.

Architecture

Made of carved stone, with a snake motif, the building has suffered from age and degradation. Most of the wood has rotted away and most fabrics that may have been present disintegrated long ago. Moss and overgrown vines cover large portions of the outer walls.

History

Built during the height of the local Yuan-Ti kingdom, the Abomination in charge eventually ran afoul of the pantheon. It is during this time that the kingdoms experienced severe hardship and plague. Overtime the fort was forgotten about by the kingdom at large as it fell apart and the Yuan-Ti within continued to engage in the same dark rituals of sacrifice. It was at this time a dark aura fell upon the location and all life within rotted away to become necrotic, Undead creatures. Amongst the various decorations on the walls are several of the rituals as well that seemed to have been performed or that were important to the old Kingdom at the height of its power.
