Dragon Blood
Flowing through the veins of every Dragon, and to lesser extent in drakes, is a blood that seeps with the power of magic and raw might. The number of uses for this material is as varied as one could imagine and it is only limited by the capacity of the entity working with it. To collect this blood is dangerous task, whether gained from a deceased or a living one, as they live in extreme areas in the best of times and have access to various defenses that range into the magical due to their long lifespans. Unique dragons that are found in the world as well as close relative species, such as wyverns, drakes and half-dragons, are able to provide a source of blood. In the latter hand for the relative species it does require more overall to achieve the same effects. The effects are also more potent the older the dragon it comes from allowing for even greater things to be achieved with a lesser quantity as well.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Thick viscous fluid that has the same coloration of the scales of the dragon it came from. It does not congeal no matter how much time has passed but it can be frozen if the temperature is allowed to reach below zero, except for blood from a White Dragon.
Physical & Chemical Properties
The blood mimics the powers of the dragon that it came from in life, examples being that it radiates heat if it came from a dragon that would breath fire (Red) or generates electric current (Blue).
Compounds
Several enchantments, magical procedures, and potions are able to take advantage of the power that is within the blood to further enhance the effects and powers that are desired.
Origin & Source
Draconic, Dragon variants, Wyverns, & Draconic subspecies
Life & Expiration
The blood remains viable for up to five years if it stored properly in phials. It left out it will degrade and evaporate over the course of several weeks; during this time the inherent power within slowly drains away.
History & Usage
Discovery
The power that is in the blood of dragons & their various relatives has been known for millennia and is knowledge that has been carried over from before the GodFall occurrence, making the first discovery lost to time.
Everyday use
To the general public, Dragon Blood holds no use beyond being an extremely unique item to own or have access to. Some people do indulge in the consumption of the substance as a show of wealth, though people generally shy away from the consumption of Green due to its innate poison.
Industrial Use
Potion brewing is generally considered the field in which the blood is most useful. The most prominent uses is to create a Potion of Resistance based off of the power that was inherent in the species from which it was obtained from. The duration the potion last also grows as the age of the dragon it comes from increases, with an ancient creating a Potion of Immunity that last for one hour. Using the blood as the base reagent allows for the effects of any given potion being created to be enhanced. Blood from wyrmlings & young dragons is able to be a substitute base to create a common or uncommon as long as the rest of the ingredients used are the normal reagents. The blood of an adult dragon when included into the process allows for it to act as the base of a rare potion and for it to the desired effect as normal; when added as a reagent to a potion that is already nearing completion enhances the desired effects or extends the length that it last. Finally, the blood of an ancient is able to be substituted for the base of any very rare or above that is to be created. Yet when this blood is added to enhance, it has the possibility of morphing or generating an additional effect that is added to the potion.
Several magical items are also created through processes that include the use of the blood. Though the way it is used can vary drastically, from having the item bathed in the blood to infusion directly within to quenching a blade, it allows for the power in the blood to be transferred/absorbed. This can create weapons that exude the power of the blood it was quenched or grant them the properties of Slaying to deal further damage. Armors bathed in the blood becomes infused with the ability to resist elemental damage associated with the blood or provide enhancements to various Abilities when worn. During this time, the items have the potential to gain a Minor property and a Quirk (DMG p.143). Ancient Dragon Blood goes a step further and grants a Minor Beneficial property due to the massive amount of power that can be found within (DMG p.219).
Refinement
it is used in its found state.
Distribution
Trade & Market
For the most part, it is considered an exotic compound as it does not generally appear for sale across any market. When it does come up, only the most prized shops are able sale it once acquired
Storage
Stored in phials that are sealed to prevent evaporation.
"Power exist in the blood of dragons, whether taken from their corpses or given freely. Enchantments. Rituals. All manner of uses beyond most people can dream of for such a unique liquid. I have studied its uses for close to two decade of my life and I am still sure that I have not cataloged all the uses that are possible" - Brother Freidmark, Scholar of the Kratocracy Empire
