Orc Clans

Orc Clans are now the major division of orc society with all orc seeing themselves as part of one of the remaining great clans. In previous era, there have been as many as 30 recorded clans, but these clans have been absorbed into one another which has been the primary impetus for much of the orc wars over time.
Orc clans are divided into into tribes, which are in turn divided into families, which have septs, which are divided into individual households. Traditionally, every clan is made up of the sacred number of 5 tribes. Families, septs, and households will retain the names of tribes which have been absorbed into the clan. At times, when entire clan or a large tribe has been absorbed into a clan, the name of the clan or the tribe may itself change, but this always happens in a way to honor both groups during the merging.
Orc clans are led by a matriarch - an older female who will typically have served as a Storyteller - Orc or other position of prominence within the clan.
