Magic has a cost. This was discovered by the first magic users long before written history.   However, any magic user will quickly this reality upon their first time using magic, if there is adequate transferral from an outside source, their own life force will be drained in direct proportion to the magic being used. 
It is possible to direct the transferral of magic's cost from one source to the use of magic, but the cost must always be paid. The realization of this principle allowed Creator - Vergar to discover batteries for the storage of electricity.
