KAY/O is a machine of war built for a single purpose: neutralizing radiants. His power to suppress enemy abilities cripples his opponents' capacity to fight back, securing him and his allies the ultimate edge.

Personal history
KAY/O comes from an Alternate Timeline Earth where Radiants were enemies of humans and were being used as weapons. He may have arrived from his timeline using a specialized teleporter that took him back in time to Earth 1, arriving on board the destroyed Kingdom container ship "Meridian" at an island in the Atlantic Ocean. KAY/O often uses military language, such as 86'd (referencing the US Uniform Code of Military Justice Article 86, which is about personnel who go Absent without Leave), Charlie Mike (NATO phonetic alphabet for CM, possibly meaning "Counter measures."), KIA (Killed In Action.), Tango (NATO phonetic alphabet for T, likely used by KAY/O as an alternative for "Target.") His name may stand for "Kill All Your Opponents." He was designed to eliminate Radiants and uses polarized radianite to suppress them Despite being able to fulfill his purpose, the war came at a heavy cost, and KAY/O lost many allies.KAY/O began life as a bot whose mission was security, programed by Kingdom Corporation and for their sole use. As relations deterierated between Kingdom and Radiants, Kingdom began publically utilizing their security bots to scan, identify, and hunt Radiants, which only made the situation worsen. Originally, the bot which would become KAY/O was salvaged from destroyed security bots by Killjoy, Raze, and Chamber to work out the bots' weaknesses as they were striving to protect not just the general human population but the Radiants as well. However, the fact that they even had a robot from Kingdom become a point of contention between the Radiant VP members and the tech ones and when the Protocol split and outright war broke out between humans and Radsiants, Killjoy refashioned the bot to become KAY/O.

Many of KAY/O's interactions with other agents are recollections about their Alternate Timeline counterparts; He fought alongside Brimstone and Sova, possibly under Brimstone's command. He may have had a close bond with his Brimstone, as he expresses emotion upon seeing Earth 1 Brimstone.
He fought against Astra, Reyna, Sage, and Skye. He has confirmed he was able to kill the Reyna from his timeline.
KAY/O has a close connection with Brimstone. KAY/O fights alongside him in his reveal trailer and both their personal cards shows them carrying someone in their arms. One theory claims that KAY/O is carrying Brimstone and vice versa, though the cards could also be a throwback to their past activities when the two were on separate Earths. (Whatever the case, it has been confirmed that the similarities between the two are intentional)
KAY/O still shows bitterness towards other Reynas (even if they don't appear to be on a similar path) after what happened in his timeline.
