North Evergrove Forest
Once the largest forest in Astagua, Evergrove Forest was decimated during the Astagua-Vescania War due to the pliability and strength of its lumber. While the late Duke Valfir sought to stop the lumbering before it reached as far as it did, he was overruled by the desperate and selfish Unified Council. The only person to give much thought to his request was King Omal, who apologized later for what happened to the forest.
Now, Evergrove Forest is but a shadow of its former self. Its boundaries have expanded some, partly from the Floranecromancy occuring on the west side of Evergrove City, and partly because enough time has passed the forest has been afforded an opportunity to recover from its wounds. The transition from old forest to new is jarring; at the border of the two one will see young trees no more than a few stories high flanked by trees five, eight, or even ten times higher. With the threat of pulling from The Unified Council, Duke Valfir secured their protection.
Around Evergrove City, the forest is vibrant and full of life. The ecology is still skewed overall as many species, who relied on the thinner canopies of younger trees, were driven to the darkest part of the forest. Were it not for druids assisting to isolate and separate those ecologies, even more plants and animals would have been driven to extinction.
The condition of this blended environment is such that the splendor the forest is also its danger: it is impossible to predict what plants and animals one will find on a journey through the wood. Be it poisonous plants, ferocious predators, chokeweed, or mythic creatures no longer able to hide, no two treks through it are the same.
