Rustport

South of Highburg and just east of the Whispering Pines sits the harbor-metropolis of Rustport. It sees more than 60% of imports that pass through Astagua) and, while it lacks the walls of its capitol, the Astaguan Navy is stationed at the harbor and has deterred (most) raids on the city. Full of surly sailors and silver-tongued traders, Rustport feels like it is better suited on the coast of Jaswa than Astagua.

Districts

Rusted Harbor

Without a doubt the largest part of the city, the Rusted Harbor spans the coast with the first two city blocks inland considered a part of it. While the docks and harbor are mostly kept clean of filth, the same cannot be said for those streets out of view from the Astaguan Navy.   Filth, in this capacity, also refers to criminals and those with ill-intent. As the international gateway to Astagua, Rustport is rife with criminal organizations that support operations across the country; long have they succeeded to evade the law of the land, in large part due to their proclivity and success with offering bribes to Rustport officials.   This exchange of money goes back centuries, long before Unification, and is where Rustport earned its name. It used to be that a unique iron coin was exchanged between those seeking to hide from the law and those who could provide them that protection. These coins had a tendency to rust from their proximity to the ocean, thus the city was named.

Olde Town

Once the entirety of the city, Olde Town, on the west side, is now a small district which harbors many of the crime bosses in the city. There is a sort of armistice between the organizations they represent due to the presence of the Astaguan Navy, but that hasn't stopped the occasional assassination or all-out street brawl from occurring.   Visitors to Rustport are generally advised to steer clear from this part of the city, though there are a few historical buildings and stores which have stood the test of time and the invasion of Vescania in the First War. Popular Services:
  • The Rusty Spoon
  • Cask & Barrel
  •

    Wruld

Directly north of the Rusted Harbor is Wruld, where the warehouses and trading caravans stage their exit to Astagua proper. The Astaguan Navy also quarters their military in Wruld, and the presence of both hired protection and the Astaguan Navy keeps it a safe yet raucous place.   If one is visiting Rustport, they'll either spend most of their time in Wruld or none of it at all, as it is strictly a place of business. Part of that business involves taverns, but visitors must either be vouched for or have a permit to be in the district. Either way, that policy isn't particularly well enforced and it is believed many of the illegal dealings which occur in Rustport find a safe haven here.
I've been to Rustport. I've gotten drunk in Wruld. I'm not gonna say it was a good time -- it was a great time. Criminals know how to party, and when they do, they're more likely to loosen their lips.   So yeah, I've spent some time in Wruld. If you need a lead on someone who's trying to hide, or if you want to experience some of the dangerous but ultimately fun parts of life, visit Wruld.   And if you want to do it the right way, I hear the Harbormaster is responsible for permits into the district. Not that I ever bothered.

    Legato Circle

Home of most citizens in Rustport, Legato Circle is a sprawling, confusing place to be. The streets were patched together over time with seemingly no organization, and navigating from one point to another is guaranteed to require directions.   Even those that live there lament the nonexistent order of the place, even though they had the opportunity to rebuild more intelligently after Vescania largely destroyed the place in the First War. As they say, some people never change.   Houses in Legato Circle are stacked two, sometimes three stories high, and some streets are shadowed by scaffolding above them so the people living in the second or third stories can visit one another without going up and down stairs.   Though there isn't a documented hierarchy or division between the folks living there, the street dwellers mock the haughty attitude of those who couldn't be bothered to walk the ground streets. This belittling goes both ways, however, any many residents of the 'Upper Deck' wish they could afford the journey to, and cost of living in, Highburg.
