Queendom of Andaria

Current Situation

The City of New Andar is almost completely built, in a gargantuan feat of masonry. Work is progressing on the new canal and highroad to the coast, they are roughly halfway at present. Encampments have been set up at key locations along the edge of the ruined end of the country, attempting to reverse the damage done.

Brief History

Andaria was officially founded by the First Queen, whose name was never actually recorded, in the year AC0. This Queen rallied together all the fiefdoms between her base on the coast and the great Eldin mountain range through sheer force of will and charisma, pulling them one by one under her banner and naming their country after the land they were on, believing that there was nothing beyond the then-impassable mountains.

Recent History

The previous ruler of Andaria, Elysande Andros III, was a controversial figure in her time. Known even during her reign as the Mad Queen, she is well-known to have carved a bloody path through her family members in order to secure her rise to power, as well as being a very unstable person. She had nine husbands in her lifetime, each one but the last being executed for not being able to provide her with a daughter. All of her sons were drowned at birth save one, who was rescued by a sympathetic nursemaid and raised in obscurity - his sister Sybilla recognises his existence but understands and respects his wishes to remain anonymous. Elysande was also known for erratic public policies, swinging from generous donations to her people to crippling taxation in the space of mere weeks. 15 years prior to the present, Elysande became enraged at a perceived slight from the ambassador of Zol. Due to the vastly different cultures of the two countries, what had been intended as a compliment was taken as a horrendous insult, and Elysande immediately declared war on the desert nation. This caused a schism within the government of Andaria, between those who were loyal to Elysande and those who opposed the “Mad Queen” and wanted a ruler in place who was easier to deal with. This second group championed Elysande's only surviving child Sybilla as the new queen, and after 4 years of internal strife Elysande was dethroned and the work of ending the war could begin. However, it was too late to save the country from devastation. Shortly after her coronation, Sybilla was visited by the youngest son of the Zolus royal family, Sin'del, in secret. He told of similar sentiments in Zol, and how his elder sister planned to take over from their mother and wanted the war to end. They were too late to stop Zo'sen (High Priestess of the Zolus) from the attack she had been planning on the city of Andar. Between them, Sybilla and Sin'del planned to relocate the city and salvage the Queendom. They succeeded, but the attack happened regardless, a great magical explosion that shook the western half of the country and turned it into a barren grey wasteland. Now there is peace between Queen Sybilla of Andaria and High Priestess Zo'lessa of Zol. During the time at the end of the war, Sybilla and Sin'del married, and this was seen as a sign of the lasting peace to come. One year before the present,  the couple welcomed their first child, Crown Prince Elsan.
