New Andar

The capital city of the great nation of Andaria stands as a great marvel of engineering. Where previously there had been barren mountainside stands a vast city, four tiers high and crowned with the glittering New Crystal Palace, and all built within a decade. Built almost directly into the mountain itself, the city is laid out across a half-circle shaped area of land separated into three distinct districts by use of the tiers, bisected by a single path that roughly separates the city into two halves.   The lowest tier of the city is encircled by a great wall clad in creamy, red-tinted marble that is easily upward of 50 feet tall. In the very centre is the Phoenix Gate, a wrought iron masterpiece depicting a great firebird unfolding its wings in a flight of rebirth, a metaphor for the city and its residents imbued with magicks that make the details glow as if actually ablaze. The gate itself is never opened, instead there are two smaller gates at its base, one large enough for carts and horses, another for more pedestrian incomers. The Phoenix Gate aligns with the Great Causeway - a paved white marble slope wide enough for two carriages to pass easily that runs directly from the Gate to the entrance to the Palace, the central boulevard lined by towering pine trees. The tier itself is home to the lower class citizens - the eastern half is predominantly slums, while the west is home to many less well-to-do merchant types, and butting up against the western mountain wall are what are affectionately called the Docks. Technically the Docks are mostly just storage, warehouses and places for the workers to stay when they are not busy dealing with the construction of the Ana Canal, the last place in the city that needs to be completed.   The middle tier of the city proper is predominantly a place for merchants and travellers to the city along with the bulk of its housing, lodgings and drinking establishments. The Adventurer's Guild is located on this tier, along with the Gentleman's Association and the Grand Market, a sprawling covered bazaar where all manner of goods and services are sold.   The third tier, and highest of the city itself, is the noble district. Huge mansions and gardens abound, home to the well-to-do of the city in shady avenues and cul-de-sacs. The great centre of magical learning, Arcanum Eldar, is located on the western half, along with the mysterious Circle of Mages and the Society for the Restoration of Andar's Headquarters. Places of note on the eastern side include the Temple of the Divines, a delicate white and gold structure that welcomes individuals of all non-evil stripes to worship their gods, and the Eldar Druidic Coven.   The fourth and final tier of the city is heavily walled and gated, as it encompasses the massive sculpted gardens and towers of the New Crystal Palace itself. A fairytale concoction of white and yellow stone, the towers of the palace soar into the skies and are embedded with tiny magical crystals that scatter the suns rays in rainbow patterns.
